What To Wear To Fashion Week By Jessica Meisels
The shoes! The bags! The designers! Will you get a gift bag? Will you spot a celebrity? Or will someone spot you and make you the new face of Fashion Week? Perhaps, if you follow TFS’ guide on What to Wear to Fashion Week!
-If you are sitting in the front row, a dress that goes at least to your knees or even a more formal pant is preferred to stop your dress riding up or an unflattering photograph being splashed across the daily papers.
-It’s important to look smart and polished-hair, make-up and nails all add to your look, so take the time to make yourself look as fabulous as you can, cause when you look good, you feel good!
-Take note of the particular designer or type of show you are attending. For instance, if you are viewing the works of a local designer, it shows your support by wearing the designer’s label to showcase that you are a fan of the designer and their collections.
-Don’t be afraid of interesting statement pieces like a great chunky neck-lace or a coloured shoe to complement the rest of your outfit.
-Also take note of the style of clothing you will be going to. Fashion Week is generally a chance to showcase that you are sophisticated, pol-ished, and have a definitive sense of style. There is a way to look like you are meant to be there whilst showing your own fashion flavour!

Friday night saw another exciting LMFF event take place- the Penthouse Mouse, Mid Mouse runway show. The event, now in its 7th year, is run by the consultancy and production team, Moth Designs. Last nights show titled “Restlessness” featured 11 designers split over 2 runway shows. Show 1 featured: Autonomy, Leonard Street, the Social Studio, Ameca Calleja, RES Deni, Tightology. Show 2 featured: Raggat, Christina Exie, Keegan, NEO DIA, Ja-son Hewit.
The show’s title “Restlessness” was described by Penthouse Mouse team as based on feelings of boredom, ambition, dissatisfaction, procrastination and impending death. All pretty dark stuff but as the team suggests, it doesn’t need to be all negative “provided it prompts you to take your hand away from the flame, pain can have it’s benefits. Like when restless prompts action, some benefits will usu-ally follow.”
Friday’s runway shows were definitely the resulting ben-efits! The event took place on Wills St in Melbourne’s in-ner city, where a warehouse was transformed into an art/

design space. Melbourne creatives showcased vibrant and daring designs with a deliberate disregard for current trends. The designs were original, inspiring and without inhibitions. Each designer was clearly chosen for the show because of their desire/ability to push the boundaries of creativity and challenge the norm in regards to silhouettes, fabrics and design details. The result was an exciting show that really encapsulated what Melbourne fashion week is truly about.
