Our numbers were down this year for BYSL teams participating in State Cup but we were represented well by BSC U15B and EFC U16B who both walked away with 3 rd places respectively. Well done! Some teams are still training and attending summer tournaments abroad but it is important that all of our players stay active and continue to touch the ball in the off season as the Fall HS / JH / U12 / YDP season will be upon us sooner than you think. Summer camps and Open Play/Pick-up games are a great way to achieve that. Here locally, we have the ISU/OSC Mini Camp and there are also numerous other summer camps close to our area (ISU, BSU, BYU, & others in Utah) if you or your player is willing to travel. There are several venues w/open play around the city and summer city leagues for the older players as well. Watching high level matches are very beneficial to our players; either travelling to Utah to see SL Real (the US Women vs. Canada is coming up next week down in Utah!) or watching soccer matches on TV or the internet. You are encouraged to review this document. It covers such things as; overall program goals or expectations, BYSL Coaching Resources, U12 Tournaments, What’s beyond U12s, Expectations for spring (club) Tryouts, and Choosing a Club; (i.e., what questions you should consider asking when choosing a club).

Also, a BYSL YDP Soccer Guide has been made available for our U6-U10 parents, so they can be made aware of some of the YDP guidelines and activities. Please review this guide which is posted on the BYSL Website.

What is a Jamboree?

A Jamboree is an event where players play without being coached. These players are evaluated and placed into a variety of skill categories. The director and coaches then use these evaluations to create more balanced teams. The date and time for the jamboree(s) is set by the Program Director and will be posted on the BYSL website (byslsoccer.org). Please bring shin guards, ball, water, and cleats. (See age chart if unsure of the “soccer” age of your child.)

U12 Jamboree: The U12 Jamborees will be held on August 7 and 8 at Sunnyside Park (near EIRMC).

Boys: Wednesday, August 7, @ Sunnyside Fields – 5:30p

Girls: Thursday, August 8, @ Sunnyside Fields – 5:30p

ALL U11 and U12 age group boys and girls planning on playing in the BYSL U12 Program are expected to be at the Jamboree. Practices for the U12s can begin on August 18. BYSL U12 Registration Forms and Fees are due by August 1.

This quote was found in the NFHS Tumblr feed. It is very appropriate in this day an age of teams pounding other teams into the ground 22-0 (soccer) or 102-8 (basketball), etc (this applies for ANY age group):

The Far Post – June 2012NEW to the BYSL U12 Program???: Here are a few ….

Frequently Asked Questions -- U12 Program (Q&A)

U11 & U12 Teams:Beginning the Fall of 2012, BYSL’s goal is to have single age teams at both U11 & U12 (if numbers allow). These teams are gender specific. The seasonal year runs from August 1 through July 31.

In the fall; when teams are selected, (after the jamboree) the team will stay together for both the fall and spring season. (Note: If a player is interested in changing teams in the spring, then your child would need to attend the jamboree in the spring.) Due to attrition, new players may be picked up from the spring jamboree to fill the roster.

U11: Aug 1, 2001 – July 31, 2002U12: Aug 1, 2000 – July 31, 2001

Registration Deadline:The fall registration Deadline for BYSL U11 and U12s is: August 1, 2012

Upcoming USSF D Licensing Course

Taught by: Steve Adlard, IYSA DOC: The USSF E & D license clinics are IYSA District II sponsored events. IYSA District II runs from Marsh Valley to Teton. BYSL and GCYSL co-sponsors these events; and shares the cost of hosting these training sessions. The

USSF D course will be offered one weekend in Pocatello and one weekend in Idaho Falls. The dates will be November 1-3 and November 8-10 (this is a 36 hr course and you MUST attend all six days to complete your training and receive your coaching license).

FYI: There will be two practical exams, a written exam, an oral exam, a referee exam, and a final field exam.

(Specific details are still being worked out and will be posted once times and locations are finalized.)The USSF E course gives you an overall concept of coaching soccer. The USSF D course builds upon the concepts of the E course and

gives you practical training experience for coaching kids. (Once you have received your USSF E license, you are strongly encouraged to get your USSF D license. Both of these training courses are excellent and coaches will be better prepared to help their players by

attending (and when possible) participating in these courses.) Additional details forthcoming.

BYSL COACHING REQUIREMENTS: Coaches MUST have a soccer coaching license to coach in BYSL. (New coaches have a one year grace period to receive their coaching license.) Both USSF E & D Licenses are offered to ALL BYSL coaches once a year in our area. BYSL will cover the cost of both the E & D courses for all approved BYSL coaches. Notification of IYSA coaching courses will be sent out by BYSL personnel and posted on the BYSL Website.

Something to think about--from two-time best female player in the world:Mia Hamm

I’ve worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down, and I will not let myself down.

True champions aren’t always the ones that win, but those with the most guts.

A winner is that person who gets up one more time than she is knocked down.

Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it.
