INTRODUCTIONTheFacultyofLawwasestablishedatTheUniversityoftheWestIndiesin1970,thenbasedattheCaveHillCampus.ItsprimaryobjecZveistoprovideforanacademicqualificaZonwhichisacompulsoryprerequisitetoprofessionallegaltrainingforlawyersintheCommonwealthCaribbean.However,thetradiZonalbasiclegalskillsofconciseandperZnentoralargument,systemaZcandrelevantpresentaZonofessenZalissues,clarityandprecisionofwriRenopinionsanddetachedandbalancedjudgmentarealsousefulandreliableskillsforotherprofessionssuchastheCivilandPoliceService,Accountancy,BankingandCommerce.

TheFacultyofLawoffersbothundergraduateandpostgraduateprogrammes.TheundergraduateprogrammeisofferedonlytostudentsfromterritorieswhichcontributetotheFaculty.Theprogrammeisdividedinto3parts-PartI-IIIareofferedattheSt.AugusZne,CaveHillandMonaCampusesandalsoattheCollegeoftheBahamas.PartIisofferedattheTurkeyenCampusoftheUniversityofGuyana.

GraduatestudiesintheFacultyleadtotheGraduateDiploma,theLL.M.,andM.Phil.andPh.D.TheLL.M.isawardedonthebasisofcourseworkandanopZonalresearchpaper.ItisofferedintheareasofCorporateandCommercialLaw;LegislaZveDraring;andPublicLaw.TheLegislaZveDraringopZonisopenonlytomembersofthelegalprofessionwhoarespecificallynominatedbytheirGovernments.
