THE 2015 FACTORY CRUISE SCHEDULE IS SET!

2015 Factory Events - Save The Dates!

At Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats we have the most loyal owner community on the water. As the manufacturer we like to celebrate that by hosting several events throughout the year. Here’s a look at our upcoming events including our record-setting Tugnuts rendezvous at Roche Harbor.

Poets Cove Cruise June 4-7, 2015, Poets Cove, BC Canada - The second annual factory cruise to Poets Cove Resort and Spa will take place on the weekend of June 4-7, 2015. Poets Cove is located in Bedwell Harbour on South Pender Island in the Canadian Gulf Islands.

Bedwell Harbour has been rated one of the top ten anchorages in the Western Hemisphere, according to Motor Boating and Sailing magazine! We have reserved slips at the marina and Beaumont Marine Park is right next door for those that would prefer to anchor or moor on a buoy.

This cruise does require clearing Canadian Customs in Bedwell Harbour. Moorage is $1.40/ft per night. There are no additional fees for Ranger Tug and Cutwater owners. To confirm your attendance please email [email protected]. Limited space is available.

Desolation Sound Cruise July 24-open, 2015, Desolation Sound, BC, Canada - For an adventure of a lifetime, join us on our annual cruise to Desolation Sound in beautiful British Columbia. Desolation Sound is 160 miles north of Anacortes, WA on the east side of Vancouver Island where the mountains come directly out of the sea! During the summer months the saltwater warms up to 75+ degrees or you can hike into one of the many freshwater lakes for a refreshing swim. Pick your oysters off of the beach or drop a line over the side for the catch of the day! If you prefer to be pampered then Gorge Harbour Resort or Dent Island Lodge should be on your short list. Anchoring out? Mooring at a dock?

We will stay at a marina on our way up to Desolation sound. Once we reach Desolation Sound we like to mix a few days on the anchor with a day or two at the dock. This cruise is supported by several factory boats and crew. First stop is Comox Harbour July 25th, 2015. For more information visit tugnuts.com.

Official Tugnuts Rendezvous Sept. 23-27, 2015, Roche Harbor, WA - Once again, the entire Roche Harbor Marina guest dock is reserved for us.

The theme for 2015 is Mardi Gras with Louisiana-styled catered dinners on Friday and Saturday, prizes for best decorated boat, and best costume, so gather up your NOLA finest and come ready to party!

Start training for the 2nd annual Blindfolded Dinghy Race. This year we’ll have several heats and prizes. And plan on wetting a line for the 2nd annual Rendezvous Fishing Tournament. Oh, don’t forget about the 2nd annual Cornhole Tournament - will Mark and Beth be able to defend their title?

This year we’ll be offering informational seminars from Garmin, Volvo, and others to be announced. Roche Harbor’s Chef will also be conducting a demonstration on preparing appetizers and meals in a galley environment. And, we’ll have more vendors than ever showing and demonstrating their wares.

Roche Harbor Marina has offered free moorage on Wednesday, Sept 23 for boats registered for the rendezvous. During registration please indicate your arrival day.

Visit tugnuts.com for updates and registration info.

Congratulations to Colin and Inge on taking delivery of their brand new Cutwater 26, Nisse. Colin and Inge took delivery of Nisse on Lake Washington in Bellevue, WA from our Cutwater Customer Service Representative, Ronnie Gonzales.

Colin and Inge christened Nisse by both taking a sip of The Glenlivet 12 year old Scotch from a traditional Scottish toasting cup called a quaich. Then Colin proceeded to play a beautiful rendition of “Cullen Bay” on the bagpipes while Inge blessed Nisse by pouring the remaining scotch over all four corners of the boat to provide a blanket of protection.

See the video of Nisse’s christening at:

OWNER INSPIRATION

Ed and Elaine on Bay RangerThere are Ranger Tug and Cutwater Boat owners cruising all over the world. We stay in touch with many of them and want to share their stories with you.

As you’re reading this, Ed and Elaine are readjusting to life on land after spending 162 days cruising aboard their Ranger Tug R-27, Bay Ranger. They departed their home in Annapolis, MD in late October, pointed the bow south and cruised to Florida via the Intercoastal Waterway. Their return home marks the conclusion of their fourth round trip cruise from the Chesapeake Bay to Florida via “the ditch”.

If Ed and Elaine look familiar,

you may be recognizing their picture from one of their periodical contributions to the popular Chesapeake Bay boating publication, PropTalk. It’s also possible that you’ve seen them at a Ranger Tug or Cutwater boat rendezvous that they’ve attended. Or perhaps you’ve crossed wakes with them somewhere on the Chesapeake or ICW. Either way, Ed and Elaine are busy experiencing everything that life on the water has to offer and we couldn’t be prouder to have them doing it in one of our boats.

Bay Ranger is Ed and Elaine’s second Ranger Tug. Their first was a R-25, the original Bay Ranger. In addition to completing an ICW trip in the original Bay Ranger, Ed and Elaine enjoyed an extensive two month cruise across the Delaware Bay, up the New Jersey ICW and coast to New York City Harbor, through the Erie and Oswego Canals to Lake Ontario, then from Kingston, Ontario, up the Rideau Canal system to Ottawa and down the Ottawa and St. Lawrence Rivers to Lake Champlain before retracing their steps back home.

Ed and Elaine are seasoned cruisers who prefer to anchor out and

cook dinner aboard as opposed to staying in marinas each night. Ed even built a custom shelf for their clothing in Bay Ranger’s v-berth. You will find three flags flying from Bay Ranger’s mast. On top is the Maryland state flag followed by the flag for the Maritime Republic of Eastport (their area of Annapolis on the east side of town across Spa Creek) and just below that is their Ohio State University flag - GO BUCKEYES! (Ed and Elaine made us include that in exchange for using their story in this newsletter.)

When asked to give one piece of advice to aspiring cruisers, Ed and Elaine had this to say, “Try not to have a rigid schedule. Without one, we can stay at anchor or in a marina when the forecast is bad and we’re not forced out into weather. It makes for a much more enjoyable cruise.”

the bleach into the water and let stand 30 minutes. Properly treated water should have a slight chlorine odor—if not, repeat the dosage and let stand an additional 15 minutes.

2. To clean out a water tank, first thoroughly flush the tank using a bleach solution of 1 part Clorox® Regular-Bleach per 150 parts water (a 500ppm bleach solution). The size of your tank determines how much bleach solution you will need, here’s one example: if you want to make up 10 gallons of bleach solution, then you would start with 9 gallons + 15 cups of water, and then add 1 cup + 1 Tablespoon bleach. After flushing the tank with the 500ppm bleach solution, then rinse with a 10ppm bleach solution (1 teaspoon bleach per 10 gallons of water). You may also want to get some chlorine test strips to confirm the bleach concentration of the solutions you mix up. These can usually be found at pool supply stores.

Once you’ve cleaned and rinsed your system according to Clorox’s instructions, your tank is ready to use. However, some people prefer to fill and flush the system one more time with fresh water only. Please consult a professional if you are not comfortable performing this work yourself.

Andrew Custis is the Customer Service Manager for Ranger Tugs and Cutwater Boats.

I can tell that it’s Spring because I’m starting to get phone calls from customers looking for tips on flushing and/or sanitizing their fresh water system. At the factory we use a very simple procedure to flush the system that I’m going to share with you here.

It’s also a good idea to sanitize your fresh water system after flushing so I’ve included a couple paragraphs straight from clorox.com that outline their recommended procedure for sanitizing a fresh water tank.

1 Flushing your freshwater system: If your boat is winterized the goal of flushing/

sanitizing is to flush the RV antifreeze from the tank, lines, hot water tank and fixtures to remove any residual smell and or taste. Here’s how we do it at the factory:

1) Attach a hose to the hot water tank drain, place the end of the hose in a bucket and turn your onboard fresh water pump on to remove as much antifreeze as possible before flushing the system. Close drain when finished.

2) Fill your fresh water tank, turn on the fresh water pump and open all faucets. Make sure you let the faucet(s) run in both the hot and cold positions until tank is empty.

3) When the tank is empty, turn off the fresh water pump and close the faucet(s). Fill the fresh water tank again and repeat step 2. We recommend flushing a total of three times or until you can no longer smell the RV antifreeze.

2 Sanitizing your fresh water system: Sanitizing is generally for boats that may have had

water sitting in the system for extended periods of time but we also recommend that you sanitize your fresh water system after flushing it each year.

If you choose to follow this procedure please use care to follow Clorox’s instructions precisely. The following instructions were taken directly from Clorox.com:

1. If you have a tank with clear water that you simply want to make sure is safe to drink or use for human contact (hand washing, laundry, etc.), then you can follow the protocol for emergency disinfection of drinking water. In that case, the correct ratio of bleach is ½ teaspoon Clorox® Regular-Bleach per 10 gallons of water (or for a smaller size container, 2 drops per quart). Stir
