Famous for: Proving the world was not flat and finding America. Columbus was sent by his father on a business voyage. From the beginning, he fell in love with the sea. For several years he worked as a merchant.

As the ships sailed further from Spain Columbus’s crew became so frightened, that they were threatening to throw him overboard and return home.
