Welcome to the beginning of a new decade. Hopefully, each of you had time to enjoy family and friends over the holidays. The New Year is a time for a new beginning. Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to get back to work. DKGMD is about to get busy reviewing Rules and Bylaws and getting ready for the upcoming International Conference in July. Information is available on the website to register for the conference.
We have our Community Outreach Project coming up soon. Save the date. We will meet Saturday, February 8, 2020, in Calvert County at the old public library. Be sure to bring the school supplies you have collected so that we can prepare the boxes to be donated to schools. Our chapter has been supportive to the needs of the children in our communities. With the help of all three chapters’ donations at the Christmas Brunch, we will make a donation of $700.00 to the Boys and Girls Club of Southern MD.
This year we will accomplish several tasks. We need to update our chapter’s rules and bylaws by the middle of February. If you are interested in helping the Rules and Bylaws committee please let me or a member of the committee know. Our chapter also needs to select new officers to serve the next biennium 2020-2022. If you are interested in holding a position, please inform Karen Neal. The activity for the Spring Fling has been determined and the details for the event need to be finalized.
Let’s pray that the weather cooperates with us for the upcoming events that we have already planned. Hope to see you soon.
Dawn Ray

Can you guess our Mystery Sister?
This mystery sister . . .
● For a science project I learned how to preserve real snowflakes. This led to being invited to contribute to an article about snow in National Geographic School Bulletin when I was in Junior High.
● I have a cat I started fostering 14 1/2 years ago who is still living with us.● I love to travel to see and learn about places my teachers showed me
pictures of over the years. National Parks are a favorite for the land-forms and wildlife.
● I love to read and am always looking for a recommendation of a good book. When I was young I wanted to be an inventor, so I recently enjoyed the new biography on Edison.
● I grew up in Pennsylvania, but moved to Maryland for my first teaching job.
● I met my husband at an Orioles game.● We got engaged when in the hospital with pneumonia. (I also missed the
scheduled date for my installation into Epsilon Chapter of DKG due to that hospitalization.)
● I share my birthday with my first child.● My family climbed on Chimney Rock while on a covered wagon
adventure. (We had a great time, but I must say that 24 hours in a covered wagon is enough time to make a connection with early settlers.)

The key pin is given to each member upon initiation. It is the emblem of Society membership and is worn only over the heart. No other pin, piece of jewelry, or name tag may be worn above it. It is not to be worn pinned to scarves or on collars. Upon resignation or other situations which results in non-membership, the pin should no longer be worn and returned to the chapter.
