Renewable Energyand Technology

Background• Ever since the industrial revolution humans

begin relying on and burning fossil fuels.• Fossil fuels were cheap and inexpensive. • The increase in population led to increase in

consumption, demand and pollution.• Buring fossil fuels produces heavy metals, acid

rain, and global warming.•

Greenhouse Gasses and Effect

• The 3 major greenhouse gasses are: CO2 methane, and Nitrous Oxide

Page 4: The environment

EPA Officially states that Greenhouse gasses are a danger to public health!

• Why does this matter?• now Obama has legal grounds to regulate

carbon emissions generated by polluting industries and motor vehicles. Which pushes these industries towards using renewable energy that doesn’t pollute.

Types of Renewable Energy

The Power of Wind

• the ACGF says that wind is not only a great way to produce electricity but it also will create many jobs and bring in profit for wind farmers.

• Texas began investing in wind power since 2001 as a source of renewable energy and has now created over 2,500 quality jobs and delivers 13.3 million in tax revenue.

Many farmers in rural areas can use wind farming to yield 30-40 thousand in extra annual income for the first ten years and after that 110-130 thousand annually.

Wind power in Europe

• More than 25,000 wind farms are operating in Europe, and is expected to double by 2015 and be worth $109 billion in 2020.

• Europe now installs 20 wind turbines a day and is now the fastest growing technology in Europe.

• in a normal year, wind produces 142 TWH (terawatt hours) of electricity or about 4.2% of EU demand and abate 100m tones of CO2 a year – equal to taking more than 50m cars off Europe's roads.

Wind power in Denmarkproduces 20% of domestic electricity.

SolarEarth’s most available energy source

• Every 15 minutes the sun produces enough energy to provide the worlds electricity needs for a year.

Page 12: The environment

Australia’s Solar Tower

• Rises to two thousand feet.

• Produces enough energy to power 100,000 homes, without burning a single lump of coal.

• Like taking 90,000 cars off the road.

The Pope likes solar panels

• He is moving to build the largest solar power plant in Europe on 740 acres of land near the medieval village of Santa Maria di Galeria.

• Enough electricity to power 40,000 homes.

• Would spare 91,000 tons of C02 from the atmosphere.

Page 14: The environment

This solar farm prevents 12,000 tons of C02, and generates 20 mega watts of power.

• Powers 10,000 homes with renewable energy.

Page 15: The environment

Water

• Is a great source of renewable energy because it is very accessible.

• Water can produce renewable energy by dams, wave power, and tidal power.

Conclusion

• Renewable energy and new technology will not only provide new ways to reduce greenhouse gasses and save our environment but the constructing and maintaining of these new developments will also create millions of jobs for people.
