Technically Analyzing the Energy of the Water using the methods of:
- Energy Efficiency
- Energy Optimization
- Energy Audit
- GHG
- Cost Benefit Analyzes
Concepts and the benefits
Way the water energy must be analyze using 5 concepts those
primarily are related with direct operation ?
What is the content of each concept operation ?
What is new in the EnMS proposed ?

What is/means predominantly “Energy”
in the
Water Systems
14.11.2016
Energy refers to the Basic Electric Energy
Unit equal to one kilowatt of power supplied
from an electric circuit for one hour.
Measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Climate Protection in Kosovo through Energy Efficient Water and Wastewater Services14.11.2016
Efficiency of the Energy in the water sector is the ideal part of energy
the water is “receiving and losing” by moving from the source to the
reservoirs using the energy of the pumps for pushing it.
This means simply the analyze of the used energy in a part of the system
Pumps – Transmission main – Reservoirs
There are three key sub strategies that are easily implementable and can
be consistently applied using automation.
1- Operating individual pump or combinations of pumps as efficiently as possible
2- Shifting pumping to periods of lower cost
3- Avoiding or minimizing electric utility demand charges
To fully understand the potential benefits and energy savings of the strategies 2 & 3 it is necessary to have an
understanding of electric utility rate schedules and billing.

Energy Optimization
14.11.2016
- Optimizing Water Energy means to save water and save the Potential
Energy that the water has when reaching the water reservoirs.
Electrical Energy is changed in Mechanical Energy by producing Kinetic
Energy that is changed in Potential Energy.
This means the Electrical Energy is transformed several times and the
ENERGY is transferred to the water
- Simply the Energy Optimization concept of the water is related with the
hydraulic systems, Water Reservoirs - End Users and this concept
includes different “standard programs” into the operation of the
water services.

Energy Audit
14.11.2016
- It is a continuous process that must be introduced at the WUs,
deals with frequent controls and continuous monitoring of
devices by insuring optimal operational technical parameters,
maximum efficiency and minimum operational costs of
machineries.
- The Energy Audit as well deals with administrative and
managerial processes related energy usage and potentials for
saving.

Energy Saving & GHG reduction, indirect benefits
14.11.2016
- The Kosovo Energy Efficiency Action Plan (KEEAP) for 2010-2018 targets to reduce the
total energy consumption by 9%,
- Or a reduction of CO2 emissions by 91.89 ktoe. (Kilo Ton Oil Equivalent)
Actually the production of 1 kWh Electrical Energy the emission is 1.295 Kg CO2equivalent
- This will contribute to reduce the PM2.5- (an indicator that shows the air pollution with dangerous impact in the population health)
- Kosovo is on the top of top 10 countries in Europe who are operating Coal Power Plants for
producing Electrical Energy.
- The PM2.5 emission is a cancerogen element in air. The value of PM2.5 is 4.851 from
Kosovo 1 and comparing with Macedonia the second in ranking as polluter with PM2.5
with value 2.682, Kosovo is producing almost double.
- The EU is on track to reduce GHG emissions by 20 % compared to 1990 by 2020
- In this study the calculation of the CO2 e are made possible using ECAM software.
- 10 Estern European Countris, by producing Electrical Energy with Coal, are impacting
according to the calcullation the Western Europian caountries with 8.5 Billion Euros /year in
the health sector.

EnMs in daily practice
14.11.2016
In near future, systematic practice in the Water Utilities must be an
atomized EnMS model in form of utilizing:
- A skeletonized hydraulic model,
- A direct/ real-time SCADA connection
- A data/variables, PIs and KPI system as well the financial comparative/
virtual benefit and
- Advanced algorithms to schedule automatic, system-wide operation of
pumps, pipes, reservoirs and valves with the goal of
1- Meeting system demand, and
2- Minimizing total cost without rupturing system constraints.

Pumps with low efficiency in water supply systems
- A detailed technical cross chek using components of EnMS on sites,
pumpos with low efficiency are evident in water supply systems.
Water distribution systems with very high water losses and low
efficiency
- The Total Losses are very high.
- It is evident that the highest % of losses are technical losses at the
network distribution due to: (Next Slide)

Conclusions of the Presentation
Präsentationstitel hier eintragen14.11.2016
- The EnMS is a valid key platofrm for analyzing in all aspects the Water for
Humans Systems.
- The EnMS by being a open Platform accepts other concepts into it
- It is a must to introduce that in the daily operations and train the staff of
the Water Utilities in order to understand the importance and specializing
teams in each program and module.
- It is imperative demand creation of qualified actions chain in the daily
operations based on the EU standards.
- The management must base the analyzes of the operation and progress
on the EnMS in order to reach the objectives set up in the Business Plans
and improve the owerall water services.
- SHUKALB & SHUKOS are the bodies with capacities for training and
qualifying staff who will be ready for fulfilling the tasks at the WUs
- SHUKALB & SHUKOS must be in position for WUs CERTIFICATION
