MINUTES OF ENCLAVE BOARD MEETING
JULY 7, 2015
Present: Diane Fadely, Pat Vogel, Sharon Garry, Charles Ackerman, Juliana Kopec, Mike Conron,
Phyllis Mitchell, Linda Gugliemelli, Lisa Shank
The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:32 pm. A quorum was present.
1. OPEN FORUM:
i. Several residents were concerned about the overgrowth between the homes. A neighbor had spoken to the Landscape Committee and BJL was notified. To date there has been no improve-ment but BJL assured the OSM that they will catch up on the weeding . It has gotten ahead of them due to the frequent rains. The herbicide they used has proven to be ineffective and the
weeds will need to be hand pulled.
ii. A resident expressed concern about the dying crepe myrtles in the islands at the condo. The residents would like to continue with this tree for the color. Since the crepe myrtles have not done well, there is concern about continuing to replant these. Members of the Condo Landscap-
ing Committee wish to contact the contractor for further information.
iii. A concern was raised about completion of the work on the dumpsters. The OSM is in contact with the workman to get this job completed. A resident inquired about the status of the patch-
ing of the asphalt. The OSM is obtaining bids for this work.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the May 19 meeting. The vote
was all in favor.
3. TREASURER’S REPORT:
The budget continues on track. There is a CD coming due the end of September which may
need to be redeemed to cover anticipated expenditures.
4. COMMITTEE REPORTS: The Social Committee reported that the upcoming events are be-
ing filled up quickly. Eighty people attended the 4th of July Chillin’ and Grillin’.
5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
i. The website has been completed and will be reviewed by the HOA Board members by the end of the week. After the Board’s input, members of the community will be asked to review the website and suggest changes.
ii. The clubhouse furniture and drapery renovations have been completed except for the card room
tables which are going out for repairs soon.
iii. The fitness center vendor has ordered the correct seated leg curl machine and it should arrive in a matter of weeks. The order for the Nu- step had been delayed; the OSM will secure an up-
dated price and proceed with the purchase.
6. ITEMS NEEDING BOARD VOTE:
i. A motion was made and seconded to pay the cost for the replacement bed which Condo I re-
quested. The vote was all in favor.
4
Dr
af
t
ii. Villas II has requested that the Board pay a portion of their suggested solution for correcting the damage done by the trash trucks. A concern was raised about deterioration where two different materials join, resulting in added expenses over the years and raising the question of who would be liable for these repairs. A motion was made and seconded that the Board deny the request which involves going onto HOA property. The vote was all in favor. The Board is recom-
mending that replacement posts be installed instead.
iii. The Landscaping Committee and Villas II have come to an agreement to remove the linden trees on Westminster. Other tree varieties will be planted per the Landscape Committee report presented this evening. Residents will be given ample notification of the project before any trees are removed. A motion was made and seconded that the report from the Landscaping
Committee be accepted. The vote was all in favor.
iv. A motion was made and seconded to ratify the Constellation Energy proposal for 48 months.
The vote was all in favor.
v. A motion was made and seconded to ratify the proposal for correcting the drainage issue at the
kiosk. The vote was all in favor. The expected completion date is July 20.
vi. A motion was made that the clubhouse rental agreement modifications be accepted as written. The vote was all in favor. The OSM will seek clarification of the bike lane limitations on park-
ing. The amended agreement will be sent out by email and posted in the kiosks.
vii. A request by a resident to consider limiting the Chillin’ and Grillin’ participation to residents only was discussed. The motion was made and seconded to keep the present limit at 8 guests
per resident. The vote was all in favor.
7. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:
i. All committees will need to start working on their 2016 budgets for presentation by October.
ii. The guardhouse door which was damaged by the pool company has been replaced at their ex-
pense and all the exterior doors have been painted.
iii. The OSM reported that the phone service contract seemed high and after contacting Verizon,
the bill was reduced.
iv. The lifeguards have full authority to close the pool due to weather conditions. A notice will be sent to the community to restate the closure rules and those governing glass containers on the
pool deck.
8. OPEN FORUM:
i. A concern was raised about the electrical equipment in the clubhouse being mishandled by peo-ple who are not familiar with the system. A write-up for using this will be posted but it may be
necessary to lock up the equipment and have a sign-out required to allow access.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Phyllis Mitchell, Secretary

Are You Missing Your Flowers ? This guy was brazenly eating away, while Pat Schaum, Ken Hoffman, and Pres Hartman stood about 6 ft away. He apparently was unconcerned that they were there. (Outside 2701 Westminster Road) (Photo by Pres Hartman)
Can You Help? My son-in-law is in Afghanistan for the next 12 months serving in the Air Force and helping the Afghanies build their air-port infrastructure. He loves National Geographic magazine and has a current subscription but I am looking mainly for older issues. If you have any you'd like to donate to Jonah and the rest of the boys in his area, I'll be happy to pick them up. Call or email me. Thanks -- Kathy Gaudio, 410-916-2412 [email protected]

MahJongg Fun On Tuesday night, July 14, Sherryl Theaman had MahJongg directly after the passing was finished. The other women at the table Lee Picton, Marsha Greenfeld and Sheila Bernstein, were totally amazed when Sherryl called MahJongg before a tile was even thrown! She went on to have a banner evening and had MahJongg another six or seven times.
To Participate is to Win That is the motto for the Maryland Senior Olympics (MSO). Henry Dahlen (resident on Eaton Square) who is Chairman of the MSO trav-eled to Minneapolis on July 7th to compete in the 2015 National Senior Games. He competed with his volleyball team “Boomers” which consists of teammates from Maryland, Minnesota, Connecticut, and Brazil. The team played exceptionally well which was proven by them winning the Gold Medal. Henry’s wife Donna, daughter Kristin, and granddaughter Macy traveled with him to cheer the team on. Henry encourages everyone to come out and participate in the games.

Independence Day Celebration
"Forty residents from Ellicott Hills attended the production of "1776" at Toby's Dinner Theater on July 1 to celebrate Independence Day and as a start to the holiday festivities culminating with our "Fourth of July Chillin & Grillin" event by the pool. (Photos by Joyce Lee & Mike Allen)
The Niagara Falls Bus Trip and there is our Bill Andrews in that red poncho getting very wet!
From June 21 - June 24, residents from The Enclave at Ellicott Hills, along with approximately 80 other attendees from the area, took a fantastic bus tour to Niagara Falls, Canada to visit the sights surrounding the Falls including the Welland Canal & Locks, The Niagara Falls Clock, Vineyards and Niagara by the Lake. The trip ended all too soon. Next on the list may be a bus trip to Quebec and Montreal with our own French teacher to give lessons in French during our travels.

Pool Reminders Food MAY BE consumed in the pool area, but residents are required to clean up after themselves and properly dispose of all trash. The lifeguard will have tools available for this if needed, but cleanup is the resident’s responsibility. You are allowed to bring a small cooler of snacks and beverages. If there aren’t any scheduled parties/activities at the clubhouse you can also store items in the
refrigerator but please make sure they are labeled.
Also DO NOT take items out of the refrigerator that do not belong to you. Recently there have been a few occasions were guests of the pool have helped
themselves to food and drinks.
Alcohol MAY NOT be consumed on the pool deck unless a part of a community party. Glass containers are strictly prohibited! If there is the slightest possibility that broken glass fell into the pool, the pool must then be shut down, completely
drained and cleaned.
All guests must be accompanied by an age qualified resident at all times. If you suspect that someone is not a resident of the Enclave please notify the guard on
duty.
Lifeguards are not baby-sitters. Residents are responsible for their children/
grandchildren at all times.
Fitness Center Reminders All guests must be at least 18 years old and must be accompanied by a Resident at all times.
All equipment must be cleaned after use.
Users are solely responsible for their personal belongings. The Board, the Association, and/or the On-Site Manager are not responsible for the loss of any user's personal effects. Upon completion of an
exercise activity, all personal items and equipment must be either stored in the lockers or removed
from the Clubhouse. Exercise balls are to be stored in the women’s locker room.
Please turn off all lights and fans when exiting the Fitness Center

SIMPLY MADE, SIMPLY GREAT
A regularly irregular food column
For those of you who were at the Independence Day Chillin’ and Grillin’ here are the two requested recipes from our residents Mike Allen and Joyce Lee Mike Allen's Spicy Slaw
I get the cherries and golden raisins from Trader Joe's and I prefer to use olive oil based
mayonnaise, available in most supermarkets.
Mix all ingredients except the mayonnaise in a large bowl. Add the mayonnaise and mix
thoroughly. Place the slaw in a serving bowl and enjoy.
Joyce Lee’s Pea Salad
Mix peas & onions together in the serving dish you are going to use. Mix the sugar and mayonnaise together in a small bowl and spread over the top of the peas. Sprinkle cheese over the top and finally top with the bacon bits. A vegetarian alternative is to use 6oz of smoked sliced almonds instead of the bacon bits.
Please send YOUR recipes to me to share with your neighbors through this column. Food
questions? Bring them on! [email protected]
14 oz pack of coleslaw mix 2 oz golden raisins
2 oz dried tart cherries 1-2 tsp mild curry powder (adjust to taste)
4 oz mayonnaise
2 lb. bag small peas (thawed) or 2 1 lb. bags. 2 - 3 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup red diced onion 4 oz Shredded Kraft cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cup Mayonnaise Bacon Bits
