THE ELKS HORN Edgewater - NSB Elks Lodge # 1557
820 W. Park Ave, Edgewater, FL 32132
Members All,
It’s holiday time!
By the time you read this, Thanksgiving will just be a memory, and hopefully all that turkey soup made, with leftovers, will be gone, just in time to
start it all over again for Christmas. If you don’t harbor the holiday spirit, year round, now is the time to renew all your friendships, sharing and
celebrating with your friends and loved ones, and giving generously to those less fortunate. It is the time to really remember the true meaning of
Christmas.
Our lodge Hoop Shoot competition was held on Saturday, December 5th. There was a good turnout but not as good as past years. Afterward,
all were invited to the lodge to receive their awards and have lunch. If you didn’t make it, you missed a good time and a lot of fun.
On Sunday, December 6th. we had our Annual Elks Memorial Service for all the members who passed away during the last year. It was, as
always ,a very solemn ceremony. A pancake breakfast was served before the service started.
On a different note, I have heard of some talk by members in the lounge, and elsewhere, saying bad things about the lodge…. we’re closing,
food is no good, etc. I would love to see this stopped at the source and if any of you hear this, please remind them that they, too, took that solemn
and binding obligation when they became members……..
“And, if I break this obligation, may I wander through the world forsaken, unfit to hold communion with
true and upright members. And may God help me and keep me steadfast, in this, my solemn and
binding obligation of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America, Amen“
Doc and I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year. I love you all, and may God bless us, each and everyone.
Fraternally,
Dot Durni
Exalted Ruler
ELKS LADIES Doris DeRosa, President

December was a flurry of activity in the lodge including new applications for membership, reinstatement applications and affiliations. Let’s keep this
momentum going through 2016.
We are pleased to welcome our newly initiated members, Peter “Duncan” Stewart, Aaron Buchanan and Timothy Schmitt. The following were voted on for reinstatement, Sharon L. Senuta, Charles Zerillo and JoAnn Forman, all proposed by Sparky Holmes, all receiving an affirmative vote. Jack W. Brown has requested an affiliation with our lodge, Jack was a member of Miami Lodge #948. New applications have been received from Richard Matthew O’Rourke, proposed by Jeremy Reichenberg; Virginia E. Walton, proposed by Charles D. Walton; Dina Doolin, proposed by Marci Skates and Reggie Wydvonkowski, proposed by Wayne Besaw. A Reinstatement request has been received from
Peter Stanton, proposed by Wayne Besaw.
Indoctrination - January 13th at 6:30 pm in the office Initiation - January 20th at 7:30 pm. If you haven’t already thought about it, please consider helping in the office, to see if the Secretary’s position is one you might entertain for 2016. As I stated in my December message I will be stepping down as your Lodge Secretary as of March 31st, 2016. Your lodge needs you, please consider running for this
position.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT As of today we have a total membership of 510 for a net gain of 26 members, now if we could rein in the number of delinquent members we would have a chance to show a positive growth. Please take a few minutes to review the list of delinquent members, and if you know any of them, reach out and invite them back. Share a copy of your news letter or the calendar, perhaps something there will ignite their desire to become an active member again.

Thanks to the PER's for the lunch and trophies, and our thanks to Scott Skowronski for his donation of shirts paid for from the Tim Skowronski poker tournament which all the kids really loved the shirts and the donuts from Dunkin Donuts, thanks to Aaron Buchanan.
