THE EGLINTON CROSSTOWN LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT PROJECT

2016 Construction

• An area the size of the station’s footprint (about 130m x 20 m - the size of two hockey rinks) will be cut, a shallow area excavated, and steel piles, braces and tie-backs will be installed around the sides to support the excavation.

• Once the shoring is installed, the crew may work under the roadway safely, excavating to a depth of about 20m for the site of the station box.

• All phases of shoring and decking are expected to take at least twenty-four (24) months to complete.

Shoring

Traffic and Transit Changes

Pedestrian Impacts

• Traffic flow along Eglinton Avenue will shift to the north and south sides of the street at various stages.

• All existing lane configurations and turn restrictions will be maintained on Eglinton Avenue.

• Allen Road South off-ramp will be reduced to one lane for approximately one (1) week as early as June 2016.

• Allen off-ramp to be shifted slightly west as early as July 2016. The Allen may close temporarily to carry out the work.

• Pedestrian access on the north side of Eglinton Avenue from Park Hill Road to the Allen off-ramp to be closed intermittently. An alternate route will be available.

• Pedestrian access on the west side of Everden Road to close for 4-6 weeks as early as June 2016, and again for 2-3 months as early as August 2016.

• The pedestrian walkway that runs parallel with Allen Road south will be closed as of June 2016 for the duration of the project.

• Pedestrian closures on the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue will occur intermittently. A pedestrian walkway north or south of Eglinton Avenue will be maintained as work shifts.

• Pedestrian crosswalks north-south across Eglinton Avenue will be instated at different stages.

Since fall 2015, crews have been preparing Eglinton Avenue East for construction of Cedarvale Station. Starting in mid-May, crews will set up work areas at the site of the main and secondary entrances of the future Cedarvale Station.
