THE EFFECT OF HYPONYMY GAMES ON VOCABULARY SIZE
OF TENTH GRADE STUDENTSOF MA MUSLIMAT NU PALANGKA RAYA
ABSTRACT
Based on the learning process vocabulary, the writer had good technique in teaching
vocabulary size that the students taught vocabulary using hyponymy games.This research aims to
measure the effect of hyponymy games on the students’ vocabulary size at the eight grade of
MA Muslimat NU Palangka Raya.
The research was conducted in quantitative approach with thequasi-experimental design.
The writer designed the lesson plan, conducted the treatment and observed the students’ pre-test
and post-test score. The population of thestudy was the tenth grade at MA Muslimat NU
Palangka Raya which consisted of two classes. The writer took the sample of two classes are X-
B as acontrol group and X-A as theexperimental group.The sample was determined using cluster
sampling technique.After getting the data from pre-test and post-test, the writer analyzed the data
using SPSS 16 program to test the hypothesis stated, that is there asignificant effect of
hyponymy games on the students’ vocabulary size at the tenth grade of MA Muslimat NU
Palangka Raya.
Based on the result of analysis, the data was calculated using the ttest formula using
manual calculation showed that the tobserved was 16.869498. by comparing the tobservedwith the
ttable, it was found that the tobserved was higher than the value of ttable at 1% and 5% significance
level or 1.671<16.869498>2.390. Meanwhile, after the data was calculated using the ttest formula
using SPSS calculation showed that the tobserved was 15.71, by comparing the tobservedwith the ttable,
it was found that the tobserved was higher than the value of ttable at 1% and 5% significance level or
1.671<15.71>2.390.It was found that the value of ttestis higher than ttablewith15.71and 1.684 at 5
% level of significance and ttable2.390 at 1% level of significance with degrees of freedom = 39.
It shows that the ttestis higher than the ttable. The result of testing hypothesis determined that the
Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) stating that the students taught using hyponymy games on the
students’ vocabulary size get better than the students taught without using hyponymy games at
the tenth grade of MA Muslimat NU Palangka Raya is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho)
stating that stating that the students taught without using hyponymy games on the students’
vocabulary size get better than the students taught using hyponymy games at the tenth grade of
MA Muslimat NU Palangka Raya was rejected. It meant that the students taught using
hyponymy games have better vocabulary size than those taught without using hyponymy games
at the tenth grade of Ma Muslimat NU Palangka Raya. This research recommended for the
students, teachers, and also for the next researchers.

PSENGARUH PERMAINAN HYPONYMY PADA JUMLAH KOSA KATA
SISWA KELAS SEPULUH MA MUSLIMAT NU PALANGKA RAYA
ABSTRAK
Berdasarkan pada proses pembelajaran kosa kata, penulis mempunyai teknik yang baik
dalam mengajarkan kosa kata bahwa siswa belajar kosa kata menggunakan hyponymy. Tujuan
penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur pengaruh dari hyponymy pada jumlah kosa kata yang
dimiliki siswa kelas sepuluh MA Muslimat NU Palangka Raya.
Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain Kuasi Eksperimental.
Penulis menyusun rencana pembelajaran, memberikan perlakuan dan mengobservasi skor
siswa dengan Pra-uji dan Pasca-uji. Populasi dari studi ini adalah murid kelas sepuluh MA
Muslimat NU Palangka Raya yang tediri dari 2 kelas. Penulis memilih dua kelas yaitu X-B
sebagai kelas kontrol dan X-A sebagai kelas eksperimen. Sampel tersebut ditentukan dengan
teknik Kluster Sampel.Setelah mendapatkan data dari pre-test dan post-test, penulis menganalisis
data dengan menggunakan SPSS 16 program untuk menguji hipotesis menyatakan, bahwa ada
pengaruh yang signifikan dari game hyponymy pada jumlah kosakata siswa di kelas sepuluh MA
Muslimat NU Palangka Raya.
Berdasarkan hasil analisis, data dihitung dengan menggunakan rumus ttest menggunakan
perhitungan manual menunjukkan bahwa diamati adalah 16.869498,dengan membandingkan
diamati dengan ttabel tersebut, ditemukan bahwa diamati lebih tinggi dari nilai ttabel pada 1% dan
tingkat signifikansi 5% atau 1,671<16.869498> 2,390. Sementara itu, setelah data dihitung
dengan menggunakan rumus ttest menggunakan perhitungan SPSS menunjukkan bahwa diamati
dengan membandingkan diamati dengan ttabel tersebut, ditemukan bahwa diamati lebih tinggi dari
nilai ttabel pada 1% dan tingkat signifikansi 5% atau 1,671<15.71> 2,390.Ditemukan bahwa nilai
ttest lebih tinggi 15.71 dan 1,671 pada tingkat signifikansi 5% dan ttabel 2,390 pada 1 tingkat%
signifikansi dengan derajat kebebasan = 39. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ttestis yang lebih tinggi
dari ttabel. Hasil pengujian hipotesis ditentukan bahwa Hipotesis Alternatif (Ha) yang
menyatakan bahwa siswa diajarkan menggunakan game hyponymy pada jumlah kosakata siswa
lebih baik daripada siswa diajarkan tanpa menggunakan game hyponymy di kelas sepuluh MA
Muslimat NU Palangka Raya diterima dan Hipotesis Nol (Ho) yang menyatakan bahwa siswa
diajarkan tanpa menggunakan game hyponymy pada jumlah kosakata siswa lebih baik daripada
siswa diajarkan menggunakan game hyponymy di kelas sepuluh MA Muslimat NU Palangka
Raya. Ini berarti bahwa siswa diajarkan menggunakan game hyponymy memiliki jumlah
kosakata yang lebih baik daripada yang diajarkan tanpa menggunakan game hyponymy di kelas
sepuluh Ma Muslimat NU Palangka Raya. Penelitian ini direkomendasikan untuk siswa, guru,
dan juga bagi para peneliti berikutnya.

CURICULUM VITAE
Elviani Sartika was born on july04 1994 in Palangka Raya. She the First child
from first children’s of Father. H.Samsuri and Mother. Daniah Daniati, she has
young brother and young sister there are : Eva Santika, M.Zaini Rahman, Magdalena
Nur Mala Sariand Rido . Her hobbies are listening to the music, Jogging, and
traveling. Her began his study at SDN5 Menteng, then she continued her study to
Junior High School at SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya and to Senior High School
at SMAN 3 Palangka Raya.after that she continued her study in IAINPalangka
Raya and took English Education Program.
