extended up to 1912, 1914 or 1918

• British class system was very rigid

• Government passed many laws to alleviate the miserable living conditions (free school meals, better medical help etc.)

• Women´s suffrage was fought for

• The role of church was diminished

• Rapid technological advances

• Became king in 1910• His reign also saw

the Irish republicanism and Indian independence movement

• The Parliament Act in 1911

George V changed his family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor

• Windsor dynasty persist until nowadays – Elizabeth II

• There have been 4 Windsor rulers

• Queen Elizabeth II is the reigning monarch of 16 Commonwealth realms.
