The Educated Man Have you ever ask yourselves why we go to school? Waking up everyday, fixing our school stuffs, travelling from our house to school, reading all the books, making our assignments and starting the same again. Yes, indeed, we all want education. This will be our strength and weapon in facing the real word. But a question arise, the moment we graduate? Can we consider ourselves as an educated man? What then is an educated man? Partly yes, because the training of memory is a wholesome discipline that requires effort and application and because one cannot make a sound judgement without respect for remembered facts. Is the educated man, then, one who because of his skill is able to provide for himself and his family? Partly yes, since education should teach us how to make a living. But there is one thing we should always remember and it is this — that far more important than the making of a living, is a living of life — a good life, a meaningful life, an abundant life.” Yes, ladies and gentlemen, an educated man is not confined in the corners of his book; or what he learns from the corners of her room; or heard from the mouth of his mentors; but rather, organizing them and using what he learns and applying them in real life. The Educated Man

Have you ever ask yourselves why we go to school? Waking up everyday, fixing our school stuffs, travelling from our house to school, reading all the books, making our assignments and starting the same again. Yes, indeed, we all want education. This will be our strength and weapon in facing the real word. But a question arise, the moment we graduate? Can we consider ourselves as an educated man? What then is an educated man? In a speech written by former Senator Salonga- he described an educated man in this wise- and I quote

“What, then, is the educated man? Is he the man who has read a lot? Partly yes, because his reading is serious and discriminate and uplifting. Is he the man who remembers many facts and events? Partly yes, because the training of memory is a wholesome discipline that requires effort and application and because one cannot make a sound judgement without respect for remembered facts. Is the educated man, then, one who because of his skill is able to provide for himself and his family? Partly yes, since education should teach us how to make a living. But there is one thing we should always remember and it is this — that far more important than the making of a living, is a living of life — a good life, a meaningful life, an abundant life.”

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, an educated man is not confined in the corners of his book; or what he learns from the corners of her room; or heard from the mouth of his mentors; but rather, organizing them and using what he learns and applying them in real life. For the battle of a real life, starts after we receive our diploma. We must use our knowledge and education only for good purpose and not to use them to take advantage of others. This for me is an educated man. A man with a vision, a man full of potential and show to the world that he can make a change, a change for the better. A man who is more than willing to share his passion to other and prove to them that everyone has innate potential to do better. A man who knows no boundaries and ever willing to take chances to make her dreams come true.

If we can do this, satisfaction sets in. An educated man knows the value of time and spent it wisely. For an educated man, time is precious. Giving all these character of an educated man, he will definitely reach the pinnacle of success and will live a happy and fulfilled life. Therefore, let us live the life we dream off, let us dream high, for we only live once. We must search the true meaning of life, we must live a good, meaningful and abundant life. An educated knows best. Ask yourselves, are you an educated man?
