Rector’s Letter June 2018
The month of June is a popular month for weddings, with longer daysand hopefully warmer, drier weather, and while the perfect day isimpossible to create June does offer more of an opportunity for thisthan some other months. It is also the month for roses to bloom and there is atraditional rhyme which says
“Married in the month of roses- June, Life will be one long honeymoon”.It is always a joy, at any time of year, to welcome couples into church for their marriageespecially when most do come with a genuine desire and understanding that a churchwedding offers them the opportunity to make their vows in the presence of God. Churchof England vows which, whether we are royalty or ordinary people, are the same foreveryone choosing a church wedding.Marriage is a public celebration and acknowledgement of the love a couple have foreach other and a few weeks ago, amid great pomp and ceremony, the country, andindeed the world, witnessed the latest royal wedding, the marriage of Harry andMeghan, and the vows they made were the same as those made by hundreds of couplesin churches across the country every year.Vows where a couple promise to “…have and to hold, from this day forward; for better, for worse; for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health..”Only love can fulfil those vows, so deep and meaningful are the words. Vows which ifkept will certainly help a marriage to survive and thrive which is good news not only forthe couple but for society as well, for as The Preface, which read at the beginning of achurch wedding, says:
“Marriage …is a sign of unity and loyalty…it enriches society and strengthens community”Harry and Meghan’s wedding certainly brought communities together and gave ussomething to celebrate. May all our loving relationships, whether expressed throughmarriage or in other ways, likewise bring people together, enrich our communities andgive cause for celebration.Yours in Christ,Revd. NORSE Rubbish Collection - West StreetAfter speaking to Norse about why the bins in the lower part of WestStreet were not emptied on Friday [18th May]. It would appear that theCollection Lorry could not gain access due to a badly parked van nearerthe top of the street. They have informed me that they made 2 attemptsto gain access but will not be able to make another return trip. Please can ALL Contractors, Visitors and Residents park their vehicleswith consideration, leaving enough room for Service and Emergencyvehicles to pass at all times.Regards - Mac Wheatman
A Fond FarewellI am not one for speeches but I wanted to say I have thoroughly enjoyedworking behind the bar for Keith at the Three Horseshoes for the past 18years. Time really does fly when you're having fun!
It has been an amazing experience to be a part of such a lovely communityand I have met and know so many wonderful, lovely people which is why Iam sad to leave this all behind.
However, I have an amazing opportunity to go and run a pub myself, alongwith my extremely supportive family, who cant wait to join me in thisventure.
I have not arranged a leaving party as such but I am planning a Pub WarmingParty on Saturday 9th June from 7.30pm at The Deer’s Leap, Bellinge,Northampton, which I would love for you all to join me in our celebration.
So this is not a farewell as such as I hope to see you all very soon, plus I’ll beabout when I have time off!
Take care and keep in touch.
