Brevard County has seen a dramatic increase in students using these devices on campus and amazingly enough in the classroom. Many don’t realize that a large portion of the oils sold have as much nicotine in one cartridge as a pack of cigarettes, and many are laced with THC.

Student s found in possession of any vaping paraphernalia will receive the following consequences:

-confiscation until the end of the school year; must be picked up by parent/guardian

-suspension with possible expulsion

-police citation with fine and mandatory 4-hour course

-if the device or paraphernalia contains THC, student will be expelled and be charged with a FELONY!

NAVIGATING YOUR FINANCIAL FUTURE

Published by the Florida Department of Education, Office of Student Financial Assistance

October 2018

Governor Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott have invited all Florida students to participate in the annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay and Art contests, which will be centered around the theme, “A Celebration of Innovative Hispanic-American Leaders.” Students in grades K-3 have a chance to win a cash prize by submitting artwork, and students in grades 4-12 can earn a 4-YEAR FLORIDA PREPAID SCHOLARSHIP through the essay contest.

All entries must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday, October 15, 2018.

To learn more about Florida’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration and contests, visit www.FloridaHispanicHeritage.com.

Many Scholarship committees are looking for students who have the ability to communicate effectively in writing. Essays are an excellent way for scholarships judges to choose the most qualified candidates.

Tips for writing the essay include:

Giving yourself time– it takes time to construct a quality essay

Following directions– word count and font size may be eligibility requirements

Focusing on the topic– answer the question that is being asked

Proofreading and editing your work– be clear/concise and correct any errors

Getting feedback– ask family members or others to read your essay and provide feedback
