    About the Eastern Coatings Show!

    Mission and History

Hosted by the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology, the New England Society for Coatings Technology and the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association, this show is intended to offer educational and technical presentations to create a profound under-standing of the theory, the science, the manufacturing and the marketing of coatings to highlight the improvement of coatings performance and functionality beyond traditional expectations.

The Eastern Coatings Show was established in 2013 and was warmly welcomed by the industry and it is our intent to exceed the quality and professionalism with the symposia and exhibit offerings of our second show.

Navigating VOC Methods and Requirements Around the Globe

By Jeremy Powers and Brij Mohal

    Abstract

There are many different VOC limits, rules, regulations, and test methods that the chemist has to keep track of in the current regulatory environment.  The lowering of VOC’s in colorants and paints is one of the mega‐trends that is of concern to lower the impact to our environment.  The lower limits lead analytical scientists to reevaluate several methods and initiate new methods in an attempt to accurately determine the VOC of coatings and colorants.  Unfortunately, current methods for VOC analysis such as EPA Method 24, ISO 11890‐2, ISO 17895, ISO 16000‐6, ASTM D6886, and Method 313 are sample, solvent, formulation, calculation, concentration, and GC column dependent; each of which can contribute to inaccuracies.   Which test method guarantees compliance with VOC requirements?  The focus of the work herein, summarizes and compares the various methods in search of a catch‐all method that satisfies the requirements of countries, regions, and government bodies globally.

    Biography of Speaker
