ILLINOIS VALLEY PEACH, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2016 - 94 - LACON HOME JOURNAL, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2015

Times Square might be the most hashtag-worthy spot for welcom-ing the new year, but it's certainly not the best if you're a frugal par-tier seeking an equally ball-drop-ping experience. (We mean that in a good way.) After all, local businesses are notorious for hiking up their prices when big crowds are in town for a major event. The cheapest hotel rates in New Orleans and Atlan-tic City, for instance, can rise in excess of 300 and 500 percent, respectively, on New Year’s Eve compared with their normal pric-es. The last thing you want to do in the final hours of 2015 is ruin your finances over one night of en-tertainment. Don't get us wrong, though. We don’t recommend staying home with the cats and pouring yourself

1. Which girl group released "He Was Really Sayin' Somethin'"? 2. Who was the first to record "That's Life," and when? 3. Where did the idea for the song "I Don't Like Mondays" come from? 4. Name the artist who released "Something's Wrong With Me." 5. Name the song that includes this lyric: "I'm under your spell like a man in a trance, But I know darn well that I don't stand a chance."

Answers 1. The Velvelettes, in 1964. Covers were done by Bananarama in 1982 and Buffalo G in 2000.

2. No, it wasn't Frank Sinatra. He covered the song in 1966 after the original was released by Mar-ion Montgomery (1963) and O.C. Smith (1966). 3. The song, by the Boomtown Rats, in 1979, came from the re-ports of a shooting on a school playground in California. "I don't like Mondays," the shooter al-legedly told a reporter. 4. Austin Roberts, in 1972. 5. "Unchain My Heart," by Ray Charles and his Raelettes, in 1961. The song was written by Bobby Sharp, who needed cash and sold it to Teddy Powell, who demanded partial songwriting credit. Sharp later had his song rights restored and renewed the copyright in 1987.

The east window of the Mar-shall County Historical Museum in Lacon has been changed to a de-lightful spring time theme.

Many old bibles have been gath-ered to include some that are even in a foreign language. The intri-cate leather bindings are well worn showing much use of many years of providing wisdom and joy to many early settlers. Some may have even come to the new land with them.

And as Irving Berlin so nicely wrote: “In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it, You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.

I'll be all in clover and when they look you over, I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter parade. On the avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photog-raphers will snap us, And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure. Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet, And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter parade.”

We don’t see many Easter bon-nets or Easter parades these days so come and check them out.

Rounding out the theme are several adorable bunnies to re-mind us that Spring can’t be too far behind.
