Timberlin Creek Elementary
Soar with Summer Reading
We are excited to announce the Timberlin Creek Elementary
Soar with Summer Reading program! As summer is fast ap-
proaching, we ask parents to encourage students to participate
in this reading adventure. According to research by Richard Al-
lington (2007), by the time a struggling reader reaches middle
school, summer reading loss has accumulated to a two-year lag in reading achievement. Re-
searchers also conclude that two-thirds of the ninth-grade reading achievement gap can be
explained by this summer learning loss. Let’s help our children avoid the summer slide and
stay on track with reading by participating in the TCE Soar with Summer Reading program.
This reading program invites your child to log books read over the summer. When your child
returns the reading log to school at the beginning of the year, he/she will get a treasure box
item from the media center and an eagle with their name added to the summer reading dis-
play outside the media center. Reading logs will be sent home with students prior to sum-
mer break. Additional copies can be printed from the TCE media center web page.
ARE YOU CLEARED FOR 2013-14???
In a continuing effort to provide safety and security to our students and staff, St. Johns County School Dis-trict requires that you complete a School Access Form if you plan to enter a facility in the St. Johns County School District. This includes if you would like to participate in activities such as birthday parties for your child in their classroom, eating lunch with your child in the cafeteria, field trips, book fairs, field days, teach-er’s conferences, as well as readers, tutors, mentors, etc. Completion of the School Access Form includes processing through a national sexual offender database and a criminal background check. All information submitted is kept confidential. The process can take up to several weeks. We suggest you complete the form at the beginning of the year and not wait until the week of an event to turn in your information. It can take two - six weeks to process your form. Once you are approved you will sign in as a volunteer (using your legal first, middle, and last name) after showing your photo identification to the front office personnel. You will be given a name tag that must be on your person and visible at all times while at the facility. Any person passing beyond the front office area must show a valid driver's license or state identification card. All forms of ID must contain your full legal name including middle name (no nicknames), address, phone, gender, birthdate, and social security number. The only acceptable forms of ID are Driver’s Li-cense, State ID and Passport. We apologize, however, we are unable to accept a military ID at the front desk, you must present your driver’s license, state ID or passport. IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED AN APPLICATION, THERE IS NO NEED TO COMPLETE A NEW ONE. We will renew your application as needed.
You can find the School Access Form on the Timberlin website at: www-tce.stjohns.k12.fl.us.
Timberlin Creek Elementary thanks our
