Dear Parents, Faculty, Pastors, Staff, and Students,

May I take a moment to say thank you?!

Parents, you have stepped up to ask good questions, support your children, learn new procedures, give generous dollars towards needs and wishes, and offer encouragement. You are amazing, strong, and supportive!

Teachers, you have invested countless hours to ready your classrooms, open your hearts to our students and their families, develop creative ways to mix the old and new way of doing things, and assist in getting our campus open again! You’ve taken on new or greater roles to maintain a standard of excellence. Your actions mirror the love of Jesus in beautiful ways.

Pastors, you have prayed for and supported the opening of our campus and the workers throughout. You have prepared to teach, interact with the students, and care for your flock in many helpful ways!

Staff, you have planned, assisted, led, enrolled, cleaned, cooked, hired, decorated, etc. Your willingness to do anything to help shows your amazing dedication to the school and students!

Students, you have been working hard to learn new things, make new friends, find your groove, know the rules, and respect authority. The sound of your voices in the hallways once more is rejuvenating and familiar!

Thanks be to God for His goodness, faithfulness, and provision as we start a new school year! Week one is done!

In joyful service,

Mrs. Dolan

Many Thanks!

Let’s Celebrate Being Back at

School with Some Spirit!

Get ready for our first Spirit Day of the school year! Next Friday, September 11, come to school in St. John’s colors. You can wear your St. John’s red shirt to show pride or get more creative by displaying

Watch for Spirit Day announcements in this newsletter every week.

Have you ever wanted to learn an instrument and play music together with your friends? Then band or orchestra at St. John’s is for you! Students 4th-8th grade are eligible to join. We play all types of music; marches, Christmas music, serious, silly, movie music and more! Band and orchestra are a great way to be creative, learn new skills, and have a lot of fun! If you would like to be a part of the band or orchestra, but don’t know what instrument you want to play, this website will demonstrate how each instrument sounds and what they look like.https://www.bepartofthemusic.orgPlease contact Mr. Baumgartner for more information on how to [email protected]

Join Band and Orchestra!

We have a few asks regarding masks/face coverings:

•Some students simply have ill-fitting masks. PLEASE help us so that we can give fewer reminders in the day. Test the masks that you’ve found and make sure that the ear loops are adjusted to secure a good fit. If you are opting to wear another style of face covering, know that the neck buffs/gaiters seem to cause the most issues for students. They stretch too much in the day and those students are constantly touching them to pull them up, which is counterproductive to the spread of germs.

•PLEASE put your child’s name on all masks as you can imagine how easy it could be to drop one or leave it behind somewhere during transitions.

•Overall, face coverings have really been a non-issue for nearly every student. Kids just go about their day without much complaint and are happy to learn and play! PLEASE model a positive attitude about something to which we must adhere.

Mask UpdatesWe love celebrating birthdays with your child, but these celebrations needto look a little different this year per our COVID-19 Preparedness Plan.

We still start recording church attendance at school. Sunday, September 6, will be the first Sunday recorded. Virtual and in-person worship will both count toward attendance.

St. John’s colors with shirts, pants, headbands, jewelry, shoes, and the like. Show off your St. John’s pride!

Birthdays at School

Church Attendance

Please do not bring in treats to share with your child’s class. The teachers will celebrate in other special ways. Thank you!

Eagle Pride: St. John’s Aides

We want to say a special “Thank You!” to all our wonderful teacher aides at St. John’s. Our aides

help facilitate learning, build strong relationships with our students, assist our

teachers in so many ways, help our students stay healthy and safe with our COVID-19

procedures, and make the day fun!We appreciate all our St. John’s aides!

(While we will only feature one person or group each week in this Eagle Pride section, we are proud of our ENTIRE Eagle family.)

Church Hymn of the Day “Praise the One Who Breaks the Darkness” (LSB 849)

School Hymn of the Month “These Are the Holy Ten Commands” (LSB 581)

Our school hymn of the month was written by none other than Martin Luther in order to teach the Small

Catechism to the children of the Church. For your devotions this week sing & discuss the stanzas here:

581 These Are the Holy Ten Commands sts. 1, 4-5, 11–12

1 These are the holy Ten Commands

God gave to us by Moses’ hands

When high on Sinai’s mount he stood,

Receiving them for our good.

Have mercy, Lord!

4 “You shall observe the worship day

That peace may fill your home, and pray,

And put aside the work you do,

So that God may work in you.”

Have mercy, Lord!

5 “You are to honor and obey

Your father, mother, ev’ry day,

Serve them each way that comes to hand;

You’ll then live long in the land.”

Have mercy, Lord!

11 You have this Law to see therein

That you have not been free from sin

But also that you clearly see

How pure toward God life should be.

Have mercy, Lord!

12 Our works cannot salvation gain;

They merit only endless pain.

Forgive us, Lord! To Christ we flee,

Who pleads for us endlessly.

Have mercy, Lord!
