Background

Prior Legislative Actions:

• In 2002, the “Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act” was adopted to enhance funding for driver education programs

• It authorized a $3 fine on each civil traffic penalty (excludes parking fines)

• In 2006, the fine was increased to $5

• Only public and non-public schools are eligible to receive funding

Background

Prior BCC Actions:

• December 2004, the BCC authorized a $3 civil traffic penalty

• December 2006, the BCC approved an agreement with OCPS

• October 2009, due to budget constraints, OCPS discontinued their driver education program

• April 2011, BCC approved an agreement with the Florida Virtual School

Virtual School Obligations:

• Only for students enrolled in Orange County public, accredited non-public and registered home schools

• Must be for behind the wheel training

• Must be for direct program expenses

• Provide annual performance reports
