Our Location
The Location The Dongyuan Theater Courtyard is situated in
the very center of the capital city: outside the
Forbidden City, but within the district of the
Imperial city.
It borders on the Huang Shi Cheng Imperial
Archives in the north, the Chang’an Avenue in
the south and belongs to the building complexes
within the imperial Chang Pu River Park.
The Surrounding
In the shadow of the bright red shimmering
palace walls of the Forbidden City, the courtyard
sticks out under a canopy of old-ancient trees
which belong to the Chang Pu River Park (菖蒲河公园).
Exterior Design
The exterior’s design of
the courtyard is
distinctive through its
grey brick walls, tiled
roof and characteristic
decoration such as carved
beams, elaborate
ornaments, painted
rafters and a vermillion
lacquered entrance gate.
The antique building complex can
be regarded as an architectural role
model for a traditional Chinese
courtyard of the Ming and Qing
dynasty.
This becomes extraordinarily
evident in its general room
composition: a theater stage; a
principle room; two storey wing-
rooms; a master room as well as a
“four-season”-room.
The Garden
The main garden was
constructed around ancient
trees and represents a
symbol of open space in the
natural landscape.
The garden can serve as utmost picturesque open-door recreation and networking area
for hosting champagne receptions or offering refreshments and snacks.
