It sure is hot and the late day storms are wreaking havoc with my sewing schedule. I had the privilege of moderating a meeting last Saturday with 30 remarkable quilters from all over South Carolina. I can never get around the fact that for us to be so different, we are so much alike. Have you noticed how quilters can finish each other sentences? (Drives me nuts) Or, how one of us will despise a fabric and the other thinks it is absolutely beautiful? (Maybe if we cut it small enough) Anyway (as Helen would say) I think that we have a great group of friends that love fabric, art, and the simple act of quilting. Programs

What fun we all ad in July with the Cowlumbia and Quilters of SC quilts on display! Hope some of you came home with some great fat quarters too. So bummed that I missed the meeting due to knee surgery and I missed you all and will save my fat quarters for our next swap!

• August Program: Be prepared to be amazed at the trunk show to be presented by our very own Sue Spillane! Sue has graciously agreed to bring her quilts and stories to entertain us for the program. So, bring your cameras and plan to see some great quilts!

• October Auction and Sale: Auction! Auction! Auction! Remember our guild auction and sale is coming in

October and will be here before you know it. So, start cleaning out that sewing room and bring any unwanted items to a meeting and give them to Jamey Jones, Nancy Adylett, Courtney Royson, or me. Jane Gold will be returning as our Auctioneer for the live auction items!

• Workshops: o September 12 – “Get the Point” with Aby Dolinger. How lucky are we to have Aby coming this

year? VERY LUCKY! Thanks to Pam Kohel’s diligence in 2014, we are going to have the pleasure of Aby coming for a workshop AND a program in September! Come learn from a published quilter and wonderful instructor. The class is filling up fast so don’t wait to sign up later! Registration form attached to newsletter. **Note: This workshop

has been opened up for non-Devine Guild members, so, if you want a guaranteed space, please plan on signing up at the August meeting.

• Yearly Challenge: Our guild challenge this year is to make a quilted Christmas Stocking based on a holiday inspirational word or phrase. If you haven’t gotten your inspirational phrase yet, pick one up at the next meeting and start working on your challenge!

--Hope to see you all on August 3! --Donna

Block of the Month and Mystery Quilts

BOTM = Summer Snowballs!!!

We're trying something new for the next couple months. Remember the BOTM pattern handed out in June? It was a striped snowball (in summer colors). (another copy attached to newsletter). I want folks to make and bring in as many as you can. Instead of the usual $1 donation and drawing, we're going to take all the snowballs turned in and make charity quilts out of them. So... Go forth and make snowball! We want to be snowed in at the August and September meetings!--Jodi

Charity Quilts/CASA Tote Bags Update:

One of our charities this year is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). These individuals visit children who are in foster care, and serve as their advocates in family court. We took on the project of providing bags for these children so they could move their personal belongings easily and quickly.

Thank you to the 4 members and Georgene D. (who got caught up in the action) at our Sew Half Day on 7/17. We worked on 20 bags, and since we spontaneously opted to do lunch at Solstice, the bags were taken home for the finishing touches. Another small group of members (and an enthusiastic 9 year old granddaughter/great niece) went with a small sewing bee concept and made 10 bags at one session, and have taken 10 more kits to work on next week. It is so great to see another generation get involved. So, by the numbers: 2 finished bags returned 74 kits given out 13 duffle bags returned 25 more kits are available

We can still really use yardage, or finished bags, suitable for older boys. Think sports? We also need more 2

or 2.5 gallon size zip bags (used for the kits and to protect finished bags). Please bring your finished bags to the August or September meeting. Questions? Beth Karr [email protected] 803-699-6577

Library Exhibit: Scrap Quilts Yesterday and Today

Now that we are finishing our quilts, we need to think about what we want to say about them. We need your name, the name of your quilt and a short note about your quilt. You can tell: what inspired it, something about the fabrics, details on why you chose the pattern--anything that makes it more interesting for the viewer. If some of you are interested in selling your quilt, we will put that information on a separate sheet, so think of the price that you want in case someone asks for that information at the information desk.

I will have a quilt at the meeting to demonstrate the proper hanging sleeve, slat and screw eye placement, as we did last month. The screw eye size is requested by the library because in the past, the sizes of some screw eyes were incompatible with the library's hanging equipment. Please remember to have your quilt/quilts at the September meeting. Helen [email protected]
