accelerate shutdowns of production facilities as alreadysluggish demand threatens to get worse. Among industrydevelopments yesterday, capping a week when steelmakingwas scheduled to drop to 61 per cent of capacity and poisedto slide to 50 per cent next week, were these:
—U.S. STEEL CONFIRMED CLOSING OF THE EDGARTHOMSON WORKS, BRADDOCK, PA.—eighteenth largestplant in the nation with seven blast furnaces and sixteenopen hearth*—EFFECTIVE TODAY UNTIL FURTHER NO-TICE.
—lnland Steel will shut down all forty-three of its openhearth furnaces and most of its mi|]* over the four-day JulyFourth week end for the first Nmfe in twenty years.
