The Dependable Honeybee

Look, a honeybee!

She's a worker bee on her way to

gather nectar that will be turned into a tiny bit of honey for her hive.

Bees visit fifty to a hundred flowers

in one day!

A honeybee born during the spring or summer lives an average of only forty-five days. If born in the fall or winter, she lives longer because she spends more time in the hive.

By the end of her life, one honeybee will have contributed approximately one-twelfth to one-tenth of a teaspoon of honey to her hive.

Can we add some honey to

our tea?

Sure!

A teaspoon of honey is the life's work of approximately ten to twelve worker bees that were diligent with their responsibilities to gather the nectar that was turned into honey.

Throughout our day, we are asked to do many little things that might seem insignificant. However, all of those little jobs are part of a bigger picture. For example:

What little jobs have you done today that can add up to bigger results?

• You tidy your toys.

• You study your spelling list. • You eat your vegetables.

This adds to the overall cleanliness of the house.

This adds to your written vocabulary. This helps to keep your whole body healthy.

• You set the table.

This helps your mother have time to put the finishing touches on the nice meal she’s prepared for all to enjoy.
