Quarter 3—2017/2018
PS Jones Middle School Newsletter
Battle of the Books won the county competition
in February. We went on to represent Beaufort
County at the regional competition at the Turn-
age Theatre! PSJ Battle of the Books team repre-
sented Beaufort County well at the Region 1 Bat-
tle of the Books Competition. We placed 4th out
of 10 - missing 3rd place by only 4 points. We
are so proud of these students for reading almost
30 books this year! Please congratulate them on
a job well done!
8th grade Math 1 students competed in the 40th Annual High
School Mathematics Contest and received 4th place for Small
Middle Schools. Participants were: Ryan Spruill, Adam Harp,
Jackson Hardy & Katie Council.
The Builder's Club is having a "Baby Item
Drive" from March 19-April 20. Items will
be collected and donated to the Carolina
Pregnancy Center of Washington. Items
needed are: diapers - all sizes, baby wipes,
diaper rash cream, baby wash, baby sham-
poo, lightweight sleepers - size newborn-3
months, socks, bottles, sippy cups, and
small toiletries for the mother. PLEASE
DO NOT BRING BABY POWDER. Baby
powder is not allowed.
The homeroom in each grade with the most
items will receive an ice cream sundae par-
ty!

March 21 was World
Down Syndrome Day,
and Mrs. Ridenour and
Mrs. DeMay celebrated
with 6 of the smartest
kids!
We made it back! We battled other stu-
dents/schools in many competitions and our
kids represented PSJ proudly.
The students attended various events and
competitions while in Greensboro. We had
the following students be recognized:

We are very proud of all of the partici-
pants. They all worked hard preparing for
this conference.

Our social studies students were
given an important historical fig-
ure from the 15th-17th centu-
ries. Students had to research a
specific important discovery/
event/idea regarding that figure
and create a comprehensive tri-
fold and a Power Point presenta-
tion. These tri-folds were placed
on display in the media center for
a "gallery walk". Each class was
taken to the media center where
they filled in a biography packet
on all of the key figures by walk-
ing around and getting said infor-
mation from all of the tri-folds on
display. Overall, the lesson was a
hit and we hope to do it again!
