The Delaware Township Democratic Club is sponsoring the 2019 Mary Margaret Jonas Memorial Seholarship for Primary School 2"̂ graders. Elementary School 5* graders. Middle School 8* graders and graduating High School seniors residing in Delaware or Dingman Townships . Information regarding the scholarship is attached and can also be found on the Delaware Twp Democratic Club's website. Each child must have parental permission to participate. By filling out the information requested below, you give permission for your child to submit a poster or essay in the Scholarship Contest.

Primary School and Elementary School posters are to be sent with this form and Scholarship Application to the Delaware TWP Democratic Club at the address above, postmarked by May 1,2019. Middle School and High School essays are to be attached to this form along with the Scholarship Application form and sent to the address above, postmarked by April 26,2019. Submissions will not be accepted without this form.

2019 Margaret Mary Jonas Memorial Scholarship High School

1 (one) Scholarship of $500 will be awarded. Essay of 500-700 words

Essay Topic: Transportation

Students have home, school and work responsibilities and they, sometimes, need to depend on others for transportation when they don't have a car or a driver's license. Pike County has many senior citizens who no longer drive and face the problem of getting to doctor's appointments, shopping, visiting friends/family, etc. Pike County does offer several modes of transportation to get around the county, but problems still exist A viable public transportation system In Pike County appears to be what Is needed. Discuss the pros and cons to Implementing a public transportation system In Pike County and the availability of the transportation modes In the county. Please give examples, personal experience and historical perspective In your response.

Essay must show appropriate development, sentence structure, spelling and grammar. Evidence of cut and pasting from the Internet or plagiarism will be cause for automatic disqualification.

attend or branch of the military s/he plans to enlist. • Indicate undergraduate course of study, if applicable. • Recipient must show good citizenship and discipline. • List high school activities (student government, sports, publications, school-sponsored

community service programs, art, music, etc.) • List awards or speciai recognition

Topic: Pike County Historical landmarks, figures, monuments

Student may choose a landmark, figure or monument in Pike County, such as the Dingmans Ferry Bridge, The Columns, Grey Towers, The Pike County Courthouse, etc.

Must be a Delaware or Dingman Twp resident attending, 2 grade. Must submit poster with application and parent's written permission on or before the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Scholarship rules: • Mustuseheavy oak-tag, 12x18 inches. • Do not mat or frame artwork. • Must be the work of 1 student • Must be an original creation • Nothing may be glued, stapled or attached • May use a combination of color markers, pencil, crayon (no pens, chalk or charcoal) • Name, date of birth and grade must be written on the back of the poster.

Elementary: Scholarship of $75.00 will be awarded Poster Contest Topic: Heroes of the American Revolution

Student may choose a Hero of the American Revolution such as, Nathan Hale, Crispus Attacks, Benjamin Banneker, Paul Revere, George Washington, etc., with a brief written biography of no more than 50-100 words and develop a poster according to Scholarship rules.

Requirements Must be a Delaware or Dingman Twp resident attending Elementary School, 5th grade. Must submit poster with parent's written permission on or before the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Scholarship rules: • Must use heavy oak-tag, 20X24 inches. • Do not mat or frame artwork. • Must be the work of 1 student • Must be an original creation • Nothing may be glued, stapled or attached • Use only color markers, (no pencil (except to outline), crayon, pens, chalk or charcoal) • Written portion must be typed or neatly printed and paper clipped to the submitted poster. (Do not write

identifying information, such as name or date of birth).

• Name, date of birth and grade must be written on the back of the poster.

Poster and written portion that do not adhere to scholarship rules will be disqualified.

The Margaret Mary Jonas Memorial Scholarship 2019 Moving-Up Scholarship-Middle School

Middle School: 1 (one) Scholarship of $250.00 will be awarded Essay of 300-450 words Topic: The Olympic Games are a worldwide tradition and phenomenon. If you were to choose an Olympic sport in which to compete, what sport would that be and why would you choose it? What are the pros and cons of your chosen sport? Discuss using examples. Use historical perspective and, where appropriate, personal experience.

Scholarship Rules: • Recipient must demonstrate good citizenship and discipline • Must have a grade average of C or better • Essay of 300-450 words • Must be the work of 1 student • Must be typed, doubled spaced • Evidence of cutting and pasting from the Internet or any other medium will automatically disqualify the

essay from competition. • Please note references at the end of the essay (This does not coimt toward the 300-450 words.).

• Grammar, spelling, sentence structure and essay development, as well as content, will be judged.
