Hi Dancefitters
I’m so excited – only 9 more sleeps until our Birthday Party. Have you got your Grease
Costume sorted yet? A certain member of staff suggested that I went as the women who
played the Rydell High School Secretary!! You can go off people you know!!
I can now confirm that we have a LINDY HOP Master class as well as a Groove Method
Master class, followed by DJ Craig Davids. If you’re planning on wearing heels, I would
recommend that you stick your trainers in a bag for the Lindy Hop session. As most of you
know we’re not licensed to sell alcohol so feel free to bring a tipple of your own (to be
consumed after the Master classes!) Still time to book your FREE place – email
A year has gone by so quickly and each month just keeps getting better and better. There’s
so much I want to share with you and as promised I’ve revamped the Dancefit Newsletter to
become the Dancefit Magazine. This month we have another inspiring article by our
Dedicated Dancefit Member Emma Farn – amazing lady I’m sure you’ll agree – very thought
provoking.
I was tidying my files on my laptop last week and came across a Water or Coke article and I
thought I’d share it with you. Scary stuff! The article is originally from the States but it still
applies here!
Huge Congratulations to SALLY ELSMORE winner of our first Olympic Challenge draw. Sally

Water or Coke?
This is really an eye opener
We all know that water is important but I’ve never seen it written down like
this before.
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated (Likely applies to half
world population)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often
mistaken for hunger
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost
100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington Study
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could
significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory,
trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen
or on a printed page
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by
45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79% and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?
COKE
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of
Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two
days
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the
“real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke
removes stains from the vitreous china.
4. To remove rush spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a
rumpled –up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminium foil dipped in Coca-
Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals. Pour a can of Cola-Cola
over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt. Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the
rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham. Empty a can of Coca Cola into the baking pan,
wrap the ham in aluminium foil and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham
is finished, remove the foil allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke
for sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of
greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze
from your windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will
dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium
from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in
osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must
use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive
material.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their
trucks for about 20 years!
NOW THE QUESTION IS WOULD YOU LIKE A GLASS OF COKE OR
WATER?
1. What are you reading at the moment?
The biography of Audrey Hepburn intermixed with the Highway Code
(when I can force myself) as I’m studying for my theory test.
2. What’s your favourite food?
Avocado salad and homemade chips with loads of brown sauce.
3. What’s your favourite song?
I have too many! I listen mainly to Arabic and Indian music.
4. What makes an ideal day?
If my day involves my kids and dancing with an organic cider at the end
of it, I’m happy!
5. What’s your favourite dance move?
Again I have too many to mention. Of the different dances styles I have
studied I have favourites in each one. I really love dancing with live
musicians especially drummers, and then I get to do lots of hip shaking
and shimmies.
6. Beach Holiday or Adventure Holiday?
A mixture of both please!
I have travelled with my two kids all over Nepal, India and Morocco since
they were babies. We lived in India for six years, so I guess I’m more of
an adventurer, although I would secretly like to be a beach holidayer!
When we were living in Goa we would sometimes stay in a beach hut,
wake up in the morning and run for a swim with the kids. I loved that.
7. Have you ever met anyone famous?
Yes many people. I have been lucky enough to perform with many
famous dancers and musicians too. Without too much name dropping
and to name a few.....Hossam and Serena Ramzy, Amani of Lebanon,
Bollywood singers Shaan and Sukhbir, Simon Webster, BBC World Music
Award Winner Abhishek Basu and many more.
8. What’s your biggest claim to fame?
I performed in Calcutta for one New Years’ Eve show which was
broadcast live across Asia and the Middle East on a major TV network.
I performed at many Bollywood celeb type parties and weddings in
India.
I performed at the launch of Gitangali jewellery with Kareena Kapoor
and my kids threw rose petals over her as she entered.
9. Do you have a beauty regime? If so what is it?
I drink around 3 litres of water a day. I’ve been vegan for 15 years and
veggie for 21 years. I don’t use any skin products or make up unless I
have a show. I have regular massages /reiki and treatments with an
osteopath to keep everything how it should be and hope for the best!
10. What are your top tips for staying fit and healthy?
Positive thinking.
Following a vegan diet if it’s done properly.
Regular exercise and holistic treatments.
Lots of snuggles and love!

Hi my name is Emma. I’ve always battled with my weight and exercise, I could never get the balance right and always used excuses like most of you ‘I’m too busy to fit a class in’, ‘I can’t today I’m a bit tired’,’ It’s raining and too cold to go out’, but for me being a single mum to, Gabby, 7, and a mum and carer for Molly, 4, who is a special needs child, made it even more difficult. My little girl has so much to face on a daily basis. Molly was born extremely premature, she was the smallest baby to survive in Leicester, born at 23 weeks and weighing 500 grams. She has chronic lung disease, heart murmurs, visually impairment, learning difficulties, suffers seizures, needs a feeding tube, and so on, and here’s me thinking ‘I just can’t be bothered and I don’t have time to exercise’, when she struggles in life so much, she had made me so proud already by beating the odds of only 6% to survive, I wanted to do something to make her proud by eventually being a yummy mummy. So this year I decided that 2012 is going to be my year!
In January I started a diet and joined a gym, I went to the gym twice and hated every second of it. A friend said have I heard of a new craze called Zumba, which I hadn’t, so I watched some clips on YouTube and decided it looked a lot of fun. I googled classes in Leicester and found the Dancefit Studio time table and thought I would give it a go and see how I got on. I was hooked after the first class. I started with just 1 class a week but then that quickly changed to 3 classes a week. Not only did I feel great after doing it, but I was having so much fun during the class, the teachers are all amazing. After a few weeks I could see a difference in the way my clothes started to feel and my body shape started to change. I was getting a waistline back! Less wobbly bits pushed me to carry on, I was now seeing the results.
After a few more weeks I had to buy new clothes as I was a whole size smaller and a stone lighter, which is brilliant. Who would have thought that the class I’m laughing and giggling my way through, with a little sweating, was giving me the boost I needed. I now have more energy and am always ready for my next class. I’m always excited to go. So if you’re like I used to be and struggle to find the time please just come and give it a try. Not only will you love it and be back for more classes, it will help you to feel great to. If I can juggle my time with all the appointments and with how quickly my little girl can become very poorly, anyone can. My journey is far from over but I’m positive that in the end I will succeed thanks to everyone at Dancefit Studio and my inspirational little girl Molly.

HOLLIE’S 10 MINUTE AB BLAST TO DO AT HOME
Here is a quick 10 minute abs blast to really get your core working. Try and fit
this twice into your week, if you struggle to find 10 minutes spare in your day
set your alarm clock 10 minutes earlier, or do these whilst watching t.v in the
evening. –anywhere you can do them is great!
Remember:
Core muscles engaged at all times, so pull in your pelvic floor muscles (like
you need the toilet)
Don’t breathe in - just pull in internally and you should still be able to breath
at all times as normal.
Keep lower back supported so tip the pelvis underneath and get a good solid
base.
Toes, Knees, Hips and shoulders square to the front. Knees slightly bent,
pelvis tucked under, core engaged, shoulders back and down, head nice and
tall.

8 x twists across body – keep the hips facing forward
