On behalf of the faculty of the Science Department at the Atonement Academy, I would like to thank the following individuals, without whom the Science Fair would not have been possible: First of course, thanks to Almighty God, for creating us with a spirit of discovery and reason, and enjoining us to partake in the process of revelation. I would like to thank all of the students and most especially also their parents. Without the student’s enthusiasm, and moms and dad’s support and most especially patience with us and with their budding scientist’s ambitions, there could be no science fair. Thanks also to Fr. Phillips, Mr. Johnston, and the rest of the administrative team for their support and encouragement. Thanks are due of course to our judges, who sacrificed a valuable Saturday to come and talk with our students about their work, and who diligently and with great care made sure that the winners they chose represented unanimous opinion among the judges involved. Some of them hashed it out for 30 minutes or more after the interviews were complete. The following individuals were judges for all or part of the day as their schedules permitted, or were instrumental in finding others to judge: Col. Matthew Schofield, Ph.D. (U.S. Army, USAMEDD) Keri Lyn Wick, M.S. Lt. Col. Michael Shoemaker, M.D., Ph.D. (USAF) Sanjareet Singh, M.S. Maj. David Doman, M.D. (U.S. Army) Mike Prochko, M.S Capt. (UTSA)

Ileana Pabon-Cortes, B.S. Candidate, Chemistry, UIW David Gonzales, B.S. candidate, Chemistry, UIW Kathryn Laskowski, B.S. candidate, Chemistry, UIW Vincent Savage, BS candidate, Chemistry, UIW

Thanks also to the valuable assistance we received from Mr. King, our facilities manager, as well as Mark Moore, John Saldua, Wayne Gladin, Joe McDonough, and Henry Wright of the Men of Atonement for setting up on Friday afternoon, and during the tear-down on Sunday afternoon. Also, thanks to the PTC for providing the welcome refreshments. Thanks to our faculty colleagues who don’t teach science for putting up with the student’s preoccupation with the science fair. Finally, and on a personal note, I would like to express my profound gratitude to my colleagues in the Science Department: Mr. John Markovetz, Mr. Collin Chude, and Ms. Sarah Anderson. In addition to their assistance in the set-up, execution, and tear-down of the fair, I really do appreciate their tireless work in preparing the students, making sure that they were keeping up with their projects, and in scheduling the interviews and generally getting the word out. Thanks again, and God bless,

Dr. Vallor
