What are we designing?
Orientation game for visually impaired babies and toddlers
Sound orientation game helps to encourage movement and exploration
Where did the idea come from?
Goldberg’s students designed sound mat
Sound cubes that only sighted children could use
How can we modify toys to benefit blind children?
The Primary Playpen Game
One corner plays a sound The child must move towards the sound
and press a large button signifying that they have reached the corner
Once that button is pressed, another corner, selected at random, begins to play music
What does this toy do?
Encourage a VI child to crawl and move around
Help the child begin to orient themselves using sound
Provide a fun and safe way for the child to play and exercise without excessive parental supervision
