2.1 General

2.2 Operation Procedures
2.2.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Iftheshippingcontainerappearsdamagedinanyway,contacttheshippingcompanyimmediately.Savealldamagedpackingmaterialstoassistinprovingliabilityfordamage.
CarefullyinspectyourCraneStandwhileyouunpackit.Ifanydamageisnoted,orifpartsappeartobemissing,callTCSCustomerServiceat1-866-581-4522.

2.2.3 Positions
CAUTION: NEVER attempt to adjust any component position without first unlocking the Cam Lever as mentioned in the Features portion of this document. To unlock, please follow the instructions noted in the Aluminum Cam Lever section.
CAUTION: NEVER unlock the Cam Lever or attempt to adjust position while your gear is on the stand.
NOTE: Ignoring either of these cautions will void the warranty and could result in damage to The Crane Stand or gear.
2.2.3.1 Open
TheCraneStandoffersanunlimitedcombinationofanglesettingsgivingtheuserabsolutefreedomtoachievecomfortandreliability.
NOTE: KNOW YOUR PRODUCT. It is incredibly important to take a few minutes to find the desired position. We recommend trying all standard call-out positions at least once. After you have found the desired position, we recommend practicing the adjustment procedure mentioned later in this manual.
2.2.3.2 General Upright
TheGeneralUprightpositionisthestandardpositionthatwerecommendformostlaptopsandotherequipment.
2.2.3.3 Upright Flat
TheUprightFlatpositionishighlysuitableforprojectors.Youmayalsofindothercomponentsthatwillbemorestableinthisposition.
2.2.3.4 Zigzag
Thezigzagpositionisthemoststablepositionavailableduetoitslowercenterofgravityandweightdistribution.Werecommendthispositionanytimeyoudonotneedagreatlevelofaccessbeneaththetray.Thisisalsothedesiredpositionwhensupportingheaviergear.

Thisisthepositionsuitableforstorageandtravel.
2.2.4 Features
TheCraneStandisarevolutionarylaptopstandduetoit’suniqueCAMLOCKINGMECHANISM.Usingthepoweroffrictionandforce,TheCraneStandisabletolockintoaninfinitecombinationofpositionswithouttheuseoflooseormakeshiftfasteningdevices.
2.2.4.1 Aluminum Tensioning Knob
Thetensioningknobisusedtoadjustthecampressuresodesiredclampingforcescanbeachieved.Toadjusttensioningknob:
Rotate clockwise to increase clamping pressure.
Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease clamping pressure.
(remember: righty-tighty/lefty-loosy)
CAUTION: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE TENSIONING KNOB. Refer to proper usage.

2.2.4.2 Aluminum Cam Lever
TheCraneStandusesanaluminumcamlevertogeneratethecompressiveforcesnecessarytolockthelegandtrayintheirdesiredpositions.Theleverismanufacturedfrom6061high-gradealuminumwithastainlesssteelpivotpinandguidepin.
TheCamLeverhastwopositions:Lock-shownbelow.Open-isachievedwhentheleverisrotatedoutandawayfromTheCraneStand.
2.2.4.3 Continuous Taper Mating Surface
Thecontinuoustaperedmatingsurfaceprovidestheclampingsurfacearearequiredtopreventrotationoflegandtrayrelativetotherisertubes,wheninusewithalaptopcomputerorotherappropriateequipment.
CAUTION: Damage to this surface may occur if previous cautions and/or notes are ignored.
CAUTION: NEVER attempt to adjust any component position without first unlocking the Cam Lever as mentioned in the Features portion of this document. To unlock, please follow the instructions noted in the aluminum Cam Lever section.

2.2.4.4 Cam Locator Slot
TheverticalcamlocatorslotkeepsthecamhandlefromrotatingwhileadjustingtheTensioningKnob.
2.2.5 Proper Usage
ThissectionpertainstotherecommendedusageofTheCraneStand.ThisprocessisquickandeasyafteryourfirstfewusesofTheCraneStand.
2.2.5.1 When Setting Up
Step 1: ReleasebothCamLocksbyrotatingoutandawayfromTheStand.
Step 2:Makesurebothtrayandlegrotatefreely.
NOTE: If they do not rotate freely, immediately reduce clamping pressure by rotating Tensioning Knob counter-clockwise.
Step 3:LiftyourCraneStandtoinitialdesiredposition.
Step 4:SetinitialtensionbyrotatingtheTensioningKnobclockwise.
NOTE: Do not over tighten. Finger-tight should be more than sufficient.

Step 5: ReturnCamLocktothelockedposition.NowthatyourCraneStandisstandinguponitsown,checktrayandlegforstabilityandloadtolerancebygentlyapplyingweighttothetray.
CAUTION: Do not force the tray down or the leg up during this procedure!
NOTE: If desired load capability is not met after this test, unlock the Cam Lever and add more pressure to the Tensioning Knob by rotating clockwise.
NOTE: Adjust the Tensioning Knob in small increments.
CAUTION: If Cam Lever will not rotate into locked position, do not force it; simply loosen Tensioning Knob slightly and recheck.
Step Six:YouarenowreadytotestyourgearontopofTheCraneStand.GentlyplaceobjectontopofTheCraneStand,asshown,watchingforanysagging.NOTE: If you experience sagging, follow step four through six.
2.2.5.2 When Tearing Down
Step 1:RemovegearfromTheCraneStand.
Step 2:ReleasebothCamLeversaspreviouslydescribed.
Step 3:FoldtheCraneStandbacktotheclosedposition,andreturnCamLeverstolockedposition.

DonotexceedtheWeightLoadLimitations.
2.2.6.2 Galling
GallingoftheContinuousTaperMatingSurfacewilloccurifpreviouscautionsareignored.
2.2.6.3 Tipping
WefeelthatTheCraneStandisthemoststablefree-standing,mobilestandavailable,duetoitsabilitytoadjust.Withthatabilitycomesacertainlevelofriskoftipping,duetooveradjustmentsoftheanglesofbothtrayandrisers.
TheCraneStandwasdesignedtobestableinthemanufacturerssuggestedpositionsshowninthePositionssection.
TheCraneStandhasthepotentialtotipbackorforwardifthecenterofgravityistoofarskewedbackorforward.WerecommendafterplacingyourgearontopofTheCraneStandthatyouchecknotonlyfortensioningpressure,butalsostability.
2.2.6.4 Sagging
Saggingcanoccurwhentheweightloadexceedsthepropertensionsetting.Ifyouexperiencesagging,followstepfourthroughsixintheProperUsagesection.

3 Cleaning
3.1 Introduction
YouwillnodoubtwanttocleanyourCraneStandwheneveritbecomesdirty.HerearesomestepsandhelpfulhintsonhowtoproperlycleanTheCraneStand.
3.2 Aluminum
Aluminumisthemostsuitable,corrosionresistantalloyforTheCraneStand.Itisnecessarytocleanaluminumfromtimetotimetopreventoxidizing.
3.3 Cleaning Procedures
Whenevernecessary,rinseTheCraneStandwithclearwateranddrythoroughlywithclean,softcloths.
Ordinarydepositsofdirtandfluidscanusuallyberemovedwithsoapandwater.Stubborndepositsmayrequirescrubbingwithnylonorplasticscrubbersand/orwiththeuseofcommercialcleaningproducts.Alwaysscrubinthedirectionofthe“grain”ofthemetal.Rinsewithclearwateranddrythoroughlywithclean,softcloths.Minorscalebuild-upandsomehardwaterspottingmayberemovedbywashingwithvinegar,followedbyaneutralizingrinseofclearwaterandathoroughdryingwithclean,softcloths.Forheavydepositsofscale,5%oxalicacid(usewarm),5-15%sulfamicacid,or5-10%phosphoricacidmaybeused.Asalways,rinsewithclearwateranddrythoroughlywithcleansoftcloths.Avoidprolongeduseofchlorides(suchaschlorinebleach),bromides,iodides,andthiocyanates.Neverallowsaltysolutionstodryonthestainlesssteeloraluminum.
CAUTION: The warranty for this product is void if the care and cleaning instructions provided in this manual are not followed.

4 Limited Lifetime Warranty

TheCraneStandWarrantyisastatementofconfidencetoourcustomersinthereliabilityofCraneproducts.CraneStandsaredesignedandmanufacturedaccordingtothehigheststandardsinquality,style,appearance,andperformance.Thiswarrantyreflectsacommitmentofexcellenceandaproofofsuperiorengineeringandcraftsmanshipdedicatedtoyou,thecustomer.TheCranewarrantyisourpledgetoyouthatwewillproudlystandbehindourproductforaslongasyouownit.
WARRANTY COVERAGE/WARRANTY PERIOD:
General:TheCraneHardwareStands,exceptasnotedherein,purchasedfromanauthorizedCranedealerarewarrantedtotheoriginalretailpurchaseandshallbevalidbyitemasindicatedbelowandisnottransferable.
The Crane Stand - WARRANTY:
Cranewarrantsallmaterialandweldsincludedintheoriginalproductforalifetime.Thisislimitedtothecraftsmanshipoftheweldsandtheintegrityofthealuminumandsteel.Normalwearandtear,includingbutnotlimitedtowearingoftherubbercomponents,wearingofthecamlockingmechanism,andwearingofthecompressionsurface,isnotcoveredbyTCS’sstandardwarranty.Cranewill,atitsoption,eitherrepairorreplaceanyCraneStandpurchasedfromJune15,2009thatprovesdefectivebyreasonofimproperworkmanshipormaterials.ReplacementofCraneStandsisonanexchangebasisandwillbeeitherneworrefurbishedfortheexactmodelunderwarranty.
Thiswarrantydoesnotcovernormalwearandtearoranydamagetothisproductthatresultsfromimproperinstallation,accident,abuse,misuse,naturaldisaster,repair,ormodification.Thiswarrantyalsodoesnotapplytoanyproductonwhichtheoriginalidentificationinformationhasbeenaltered,obliteratedorremoved,hasnotbeenhandledorpackagedcorrectly,hasbeensoldassecond-hand,orhasbeenresoldcontrarytotheUSexportregulations.
AsaconditiontotheobligationofCranetorepairorreplacesuchproduct,theproductmustbereturnedtotheoriginalauthorizedCranedealerwherepurchasedtogetherwithproof-of-purchasesatisfactorytoCrane.Thewarrantyappliestotheoriginalpurchaserandisnontransferable.AllfreighttoandfromCraneistobepaidbythecustomer.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF WARRANTY
This Warranty Does Not Cover: ThiswarrantyshallnotapplytoCraneStandsthathavebeendamagedresultingfrommisuse,negligence,and/oralterationsoradditionstotheproductafteracceptance.
Crane’swarrantydoesnotapplytofailurescausedbythefollowing:• Impropermaintenanceorrepair,includingtheinstallationofpartsorcomponentsthatdonot
conformtothequalityandspecificationoftheoriginal.

• CraneStandsthathavebeenalteredmodifiedorhavebeendamagedthroughmisuse,negligenceorimproperoperation.
• Cranestandswhosetrademark,name,oridentificationnumberhasbeenchangedorremoved.• CraneStandssubjectedtoabnormalstrain,neglect,abuse,modification,orexposuretoextreme
variancesintemperatureorhumidity.• SpecialFinishes.CraneStandsorderedwithBlackChromeplated,Goldplated,SatinChrome
plated,BlackNickelplated,andlacqueredfinishesarehighlysensitivetocosmeticdamagethatcanoccurduringnormalhandlinganduse.Therefore,nowarrantyofanykind,includinganyimpliedwarrantyofmerchantabilityorfitnessforaparticularpurpose,isprovidedagainstcosmeticdefectsorappearancedamagetothesefinishes.OxidizingofanyalloyonTheCraneStandisnotcoveredunderthiswarranty.
TheobligationcreatedbythiswarrantyislimitedtorepairorreplacementofthedefectiveitematCrane’ssolediscretion.
Owner’s Responsibility: Itisimportantthattheowner/userbefamiliarwiththepropermaintenanceanduseoftheirCraneStand.Keepthiswarrantyandproofofpurchaseinasafeplace.Bepreparedtoprovidepurchaseinformationtoavoidunduedifficultiesindeterminingeligibilityforwarrantyprotection.IfanyserviceisnotperformedbyCrane,itwillterminatethiswarranty.
To Obtain Warranty Service: WarrantyservicemaybeobtainedbyfirstnotifyingtheCranedealerfromwhichtheproductwasoriginallypurchased.Uponnotification,theCranedealermustobtainreturnauthorizationnumberfromtheCranecustomerservicedepartment.Thisnumbermustbewrittenplainlyontheoutsideofthepackageorthereturnedshippingcartonwillberefused.Returnedmerchandisemustbeaccompaniedbyacopyoftheoriginalsalesreceipt.Allfreightandinsurancemustbeprepaidbytheoriginalowner.Cranewillstandreturnfreight,providedthedefectisadjudgedtobecoveredbywarranty.Merchandisefoundtobenotcoveredbywarrantywillbereturnedfreightcollect.
Warranty Limitations: ThisLimitedWarrantyisexclusiveandmadeinlieuofallotherwarranties,andallimpliedwarranties,includingwithoutlimitationanywarrantiesofmerchantabilityoroffitnessforaparticularpurposewhichareherebyexpresslydisclaimed.Innoeventwillresponsibilitybeacceptedforincidentalorconsequentialdamagesofanynaturewhatsoever.Somestatesdonotallowlimitationonhowlonganimpliedwarrantymaylast.Therefore,theabovelimitationsorexclusionsmaynotapplytoyou.

5.1 CRANE Story
ThestoryofTheCraneStandbeganonabarnapkinintheSoDodistrictofSeattle,wheninMarchof2007GarettFitzpatrickandRobNoblewerechattingoverabeeraboutthelackofqualitylaptopstandsonthemarket.Soonthenapkinwasfilledwithsketchesofideasandtheycalledagoodfriend,MorganFeatherston,amasterwelderandcraftsmanwhobeganworkingonmockupsofwhatwastobecomeTheCraneStand.
TheveryfirstCraneStandwasbuiltoutofpowder-coatedsteelwiththehelpofanaeronauticalengineeranddesignerBrandonWilke.TheStandwasfirstreleasedatDecibelFestival2008inSeattleandreceivedanoverwhelminglypositiveresponsefromthemusiccommunity,whichledtomassproductionandaprivatelabeldealwithMoog,alargeCanadiandealer.
Afterconsideringconstructivefeedbackfromtheelectronicartscommunity,TheCraneStandV.2wasreleasedatDecibelFestival2009.Thegood-looking,lightweightaluminumCraneStandV.2canslideunderamixer,adjusttoinfinitepositionsandhasnoloosepiecestomisplace.Manufacturedin-housefromscratch,TheCraneStandisnowthemostversatile,portableandwell-builtlaptopstandonthemarket.
