The main purpose of this Basal Till survey was to confirm anomalous value*of Copper and Nickel provided by G.S.C., and to establish the cause of the anomalies.
Canadian Nickel Company of Copper Cliff, Ontario is the holder of the property as veil as the organization submitting the survey as assessment work.
The covering dates during which the survey was made are:
January 22 - February 7, '1973 March 26 - April 7, 1973
Summary of Survey Work Done on the Property in Question
Basal Till Survey
1. Fifty-two (52) holes were drilled on six anomaly locations.
2. Ninety-nine (99^ samples were recovered.
3. Sixty~five (65) samples were analsm&d, for copper and nickel values. (52 by Inco and 13 by Bondar-clegg).

Results of the Survey
are shown on the three maps submitted with copper and nickel values in parts per million.
Conclusions
suggest that further work is necessary.
As per request, data on overburden material is being supplied in the form of sections drawn to scale, through the borehole locations.
Sampling Procedure for Basal Till ~ Nighthawk Lake
The method using the Pionjar Persussion hammer with sampler requires two men to operate it. Two holes must be drilled at each sample location^ for the purpose of:
a) Recording the depth of overburden, and
b) Logging the overburden (based on the rate of penetration).
The jsecond hole is made solely for the purpose of obtaining an undistrubed sample. On completion of a) and b) above, withdrawal is made by means of hydraulic and manual jacks, followed by attaching the sampling device to the end of the drill column. The second hole, spotted a minimum of pix inches from tfre f ir s, t. is now made and on reaching the sample depth, the drill column is rotated clockwise .manually, opening the sampler and raising the colomn about eight (8) inches at the same time.
The rods are then forced down filling the sampler with material from the desired depth, close packing preventing its loss on withdrawal to the surface where it is placed in special camp or office.
Sample Treatment
The accompanying flowchart,shows. schematically the treatment of the basal till samples. Heavy mineral separation was accom plished by using tetrabromoethane (SG 2.9.61. After separation partial digestion IP accomplished by boiling in aqua regia in a quartz sand bed for approximately one and one quarter hours. The sample is then diluted and analyzed for copper and nickel by the atomic absorption method.
