Can’t cook, you’ll cook lesson 3
Take the heading The Cooker and today’s date
Learning Intentions We will be able to understand how to
use the cooker.
We will be able to understand the three methods heat is transferred to food
Three methods of heat transfer
Part of Cooker Method of heat transfer
OVEN CONVECTION
GRILL RADIATION
HOB CONDUCTION
Re-arrange the method of heat transfer into the right order.Part of cooker Method of heat transfer
OVEN RADIATION
GRILL CONDUCTION
HOB CONVECTION
What does Convection mean?
CONVECTION is heat transfer by the movement of hot air in the oven.
The heat element in the oven heats up and the fan at the back of the oven moves the hot are around.
Hot Air rises through the food and cooks it At the top of the oven it cools and falls again
to be heated up by the element and the process starts again.
In an oven, the heated air cooks the food.
What does conduction mean?
CONDUCTION is heat transfer within solids or between contacting solids.
RADIATION is heat transfer by electromagnetic waves.
