Refrigeration and Air conditioning Technicians for Development of the Philippines (RACTAP)

REFRIGERANT IS NOT TO BLAME….
• Humans are …..• Refrigerant – when used with “good practice” – is safe• But when used as “disposable” item – bad• A change in approach is needed
Food For Thought:
“THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTORS TO OZONE DEPLETION ARE THE TECHNICIANS”
VENTING OF REFRIGERANTS IS ONE OF THE PRIMARY CAUSES OF OZONE DEPLETION
Refrigeration and Air conditioning Technicians for Development of the Philippines (RACTAP)
• Prime members are technicians ( 75 members)• Moulder of technicians and would be technicians
(Trainers, instructors, HVACR students)• Other HVAC R practitioners
• Assists the various government agencies in contributing to the development and welfare of the RAC industry. (TR dev’t. AI dev’t., ToT for new refts, Tech Training)
• To improve standards of operation in the RAC Industry consistent with the Code of Practice for RAC (Dev’t/amendment of COP
• Advocate of protecting the environment
• Police the servicing practices of members and non-members
MEMBERS
OBJECTIVES/ ROLES
Refrigerant Recovery• Is the process of removing refrigerant from a system and
properly storing and labeling in a sealed cylinder.
Retrofitting• Is the process of converting
CFC/HCFC-based RAC Equipment to Non-CFC/HCFC based RAC Equipment
Refrigerant Recycling• Is the process of ridding collected refrigerants of
contaminants by oil separation through the use of filter driers to reduce moisture, acidity and particles to be reused
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES IN THE COMPETENCY STANDARDS IDENTIFIED
Conversion of HCFC based equipment• Perform conversion of HCFC
based equipment using HC290 refrigerants in accordance with Code of Practice (guided by GIZ conversion manual)
These two (2) elements of competencies are now institutionalized in the Training Regulations of HVAC-R (National and Institutional Assessment, training standards, training curriculum)
Safe handling of flammable refrigerants• Practices in servicing,
maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing RAC equipment using HC 290 or HFC 32
