Trust in God’s plan & speak as Jesus would

Now give your kindness as Jesus did. Jesus did not just give his love, but also his calmness, patience, peacefulness, and understanding love for all people. When you give your love, give it with the kindness of Jesus’ love, calmness, patience and peacefulness. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth. 20 "I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

John 17:19-23

As Christians, we should always be revealing Gods love for the people, and keep on revealing Gods love; so that our love will forever be in them. The more people we bring to Gods glorious heaven, the bigger the glorious party will be when we arrive. God gives us a command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another, by this all men will know that you are God’s disciples, if you love one another. You’ve got to love the Lord. You’ve got to come together, right now under the love of God, I in you – you in me—come together as one love in the name of the Lord. All you need is God’s love for all people. I trust in the Lord. One love for the one true God, our creator. This is not a dream. It is what God seeks for us to do in the name of Jesus Christ. I do not believe God put us here to fail.

I believe that God put us here at Christ Lutheran Church to grow his church to be bigger and stronger. We have work to do at Christ Lutheran Church, so let’s start praying together, and start a new journey for the glory of God. You’ve got to be open to the One true Love of God, and keep praying for God’s Love at Christ Lutheran Church to grow. Psalm 24:1-6 is a fitting end: A Psalm of David. 1 The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; 2 for he has founded it on the seas, and estab-lished it on the rivers. 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. 5 They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation. 6 Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. The glory of God has no ending. God’s glory is never ending. Keep loving God always, and love one another as Jesus did, with understanding, kindness, and peaceful love for all. Amen.

FAITH FORMATION FOR CHILDREN

Age 3 – Elementary School Age

CELC’s Sunday School

takes place

every Sunday at 10:15 am

Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for

conversation about life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting. The nearest location is at Derwood Alliance Church, 16501 Redland Road, Rockville, MD 20855. Admission to these 60-minute events is free. Snacks and beverages are available. How to Be True to Your Faith How to live out faith without being a jerk was discussed at Lifetree Café on Wednesday, April 1st at 7:30pm-8:30pm. The program, titled "How to Be True to Your Faith (Without Being a Jerk): Confessions of a Religious Ethicist," featured an interview with religious ethicist Jacob Robinson. "I started to learn that instead of correcting people, I needed to learn how to listen. Before I had always listened to correct; I didn't listen to care," says Robinson. Participants gained practical skills for having religious conversations in a way that engages people instead of pushing them away. How Do I Know What God Wants Me to Do? Whether God provides direction for decisions in life will be discussed at Lifetree Café on Wednesday, April 15th at 7:30pm-8:30pm. The program, titled " How Do I Know What God Wants Me to Do?" includes a film featuring Michael Binder, who asked God to weigh in on whether he should switch careers. "I hoped for guidance, but none came. I thought if God was there I should have heard something, but then I realized I had no idea what it would have sounded like had God answered." Lifetree participants will consider whether God provides guidance and, if so, how to hear it.

Electronic Giving is a convenient, consistent way to help our church year round. Consider scheduling a recurring electronic contribution today. It’s easy! You will no longer need to write out checks and prepare envelopes every week. Even when travel, illness or other circumstances prevent you from attending services, your electronic contributions will continue to be received on an uninterrupted basis.

Each holiday season, Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church anticipates and relies on a seasonal increase in contributions. It is through the donations of every individual and family in the congregation that we are able to carry on our work now and throughout the year.

In contrast, the church usually experiences a sharp drop in giving right after the holidays, and into January and February, as well as the summer months. We all may go on vacations, but the church itself never goes on vacation, and the bills must continue to get paid. End-of Year Gifts are strongly encouraged and much appreciated, but that is in addition to regular giving all year long, which is absolutely essential to the financial operations of the church. To set up a recurring giving schedule, Go to the church website, www.ChristLutheranBethesda.org and look for the Online Giving button below:

Join Us Sundays for Challenging Lifestyles By Larry Goolsby

A number of us attended the Lent meal and discussion sessions in the weeks leading up to Holy Week. Pastor Carpenter presented a fascinating series by John Ortberg, “Who is This Man? The Unpredictable Impact of the Inescapable Jesus,” which included Ortberg’s book of that name, a short video each week, and study questions. The series covers a number of very fresh and interesting perspectives on Jesus’ life and influence.

Ortberg states that “Jesus’ impact on our world is highly un likely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged” … “He is history’s most familiar figure, yet he is the man no one knows” … “His influence has swept over history, bringing inspiration to what has happened in art, science, government, medicine, and education; he has taught humans about dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope.”

Those quotes give you a flavor of the approach Ortberg takes. In another sample, Ortberg cites “Ten Revolutionary Teachings of Jesus:

Embrace a surrendered and sacrificial life. Love your enemies. Do not take revenge; turn the other cheek. Forgive – without ceasing. Share the best of who you are and what you have with those who can’t reciprocate. Do not worry. Practice servanthood – it is the path to greatness. Protect yourself from greed. Do not judge or condemn. Humble yourself.

And regarding the Easter season we are now celebrating, Ortberg calls Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and the Saturday between them quite simply “three days that changed the world.”

I think those of us who went through the series came away with a great deal of new learning and inspiration, not to mention having our eyes opened (or reopened) to just how strongly and thoroughly Jesus’ life and teachings have permeated our world – and us.

The quality and depth of Ortberg’s series has prompted us to share it again in our small group settings, including Challenging Lifestyles. We currently plan to begin the series the last Sunday in April (the 29th) and continue through early June. This will be something that can benefit every CELC member and friend, and we hope you will join us.

Meanwhile, our Challenging Lifestyle sessions continue each Sunday with weekly Bible readings, sharing, prayer, and discussion. We invite you to join us in the Upper Room upstairs between the services and warmly welcome first-timers and visitors. Please contact me at [email protected] or (301) 946-6479 with any questions.

We welcome your presence any Sunday!

The church of the first century

was incredibly dynamic and flexi-

ble. Communities of Jesus follow-

ers met together in their homes,

learning and growing together by

meeting one

another’s needs. That early life of

the Fellowship of Believers is described in Acts 2:41-47.

Over the years and through the centuries, Christians

have continued to find that the best way to experience

true Christian fellowship is in a small group.

It’s a place where you can come to give and receive ideas,

help, and encouragement. It’s a place where you're part

of a group that's seeking to grow in their faith just as you

are; a group that will be with you through your struggles

and rejoice with you in your triumphs. It's a place where

you usually gain lifelong friends!

Whether your spiritual journey is just beginning, or you're

a seasoned Christian, you'll be challenged and moved by

participating in a small group.

CHOIR SEASON THURSDAY REHEARSALS HAVE RESUMED

If you are interested in singing with our choir, whether to sing on Sunday for our 11:15 am Traditional service, or to sing in our upcoming concerts, please contact Richard Czypinski at 301-652-5160 or [email protected]

YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED SOMETHING DIFFERENT ONLINE, AND/OR IN OUR PUBLICATIONS!

Our church’s website is now

ChristLutheranBethesda.org

But fear not! The church still owns the domain name heartmindsoul.com, so if you type that into

your browser address window, it will still get to our new website, just as if you had typed in the domain ChristLutheranBethesda.org. This is a part of some focused changes we are making to our web presence based on an ELCA Synod-sponsored analysis of all ELCA church websites, and their recommendations to improve our visibility on the internet. Also, all of our heartmindsoul.com e-mail addresses will still get to us for quite some time, but our actual e-mail addresses are now @ChristLutheranBethesda.org, So... when it is convenient for you, kindly check your e-mail address books and change our e-mail addresses from “@heartmindsoul.com” to “@ChristLutheranBethesda.org”. The new domain is not case-sensitive, and can be in all lower-case letters but we capitalized certain letters for emphasis here, and you are welcome to do the same if you wish. As for the staff, our actual e-mail addresses are now: Pastor Tony, Interim Pastor [email protected] Bobby Larsen, Office Administrator [email protected] Richard Czypinski, Minister of Music & IT Administrator [email protected] W. Karunaratne (Karu), Financial Administrator: [email protected] Luis Reyes, our new Organist/Pianist: [email protected] And Florence Heacock still has her church e-mail address, but it is now: [email protected]
