imperfectionsbehinditsgildedexteriortothelocalstationary.

StepOutlineSceneOneAnartistdeskisrevealedtobehometosomelivelystationary.Abiro,apencil,acrayonand

apencilsharpenerareseentobeconversingthroughgestureswithinthedesksdrawer.A

thumpisheardabovethem,followedbysomerustling,asthestationarybegintoact

bemusedandcurious.Theypeerupthroughthegapofthepartiallyopeneddraw.

SceneTwo

Theitemsofstationaryfindtheyhaveanewneighbour,afinelycraftedfountainpen,the

mostelegantwritinginstrumenttheothershaveeverseen.Beingafellowpen,thebiro

approachesthefountainpeninanattempttowelcomeittotheneighbourhood.Theother

stationarychoosetostayinthedrawer,simplypeeringovertheedgeandobservingtheencounter.

SceneThree

Thebiroapproachesthealooffountainpenandreachesouttoshakeitshand(inthiscase,

itsclip).Thefountainpenglancesdownattheoutstretchedhand,accompaniedbya

somewhatpuzzledexpression.Thefountainpensneerstowardsthebiro,followedbya

snidechuckle,asthebirosheepishlyputsitshandbackdownbyitsside.Thefountainpen

beginstopacearoundthebiro,glancingupanddownatismoderatelydisheveled

appearance.

SceneFour

Thefountainpenbeginstogesturetowardsthebiro,comparingitsowngrandand

impressiveaesthetictothatofthebiro,continuingtopacearoundinaflamboyantfashion.

Absorbedinitsproclamation,thefountainpenfailstonoticethecopiousamountsofink

poolingarounditsfeet.Thebirosfocusturnstotheever-increasingpoolofink,asitbegins

toshuffleoutoftheway.Thefountainpensself-absorbedrantiscutshortasitnoticesthe

biroisnolongerpayingattentiontoit,leadingthefountainpentoinvestigatethesourceof

thisdistraction.Thefountainpensfocusfollowsthepoolacrossthedesk,onlytorealize

thattheinkisleakingoutofitsownnib.Embarrassedbeyondbelief,thefountainpen

screamsabruptly,beforefaintingandrevertingbackintoitsinanimatestate.

SceneFive

Thebiropeersdowntowardsthenowinanimatefountainpen,lyingapoolofitsownink.

Itsheadturnstowardstheaudience,astheotherstationaryisseenstillpeeringoverthe

edgeofthedesk.Perplexed,theyglanceatoneanotherandsinkbackinsidethedrawer.

FADEINtoaBIRO,PENCIL,CRAYONandPENCILSHARPENERsatwithinthedrawerofadesk.

Theitemsofstationaryareseentobeconversingpredominantlythroughsubtlegestures.

Anaudiblethumpingisheardabovethedrawer,leadingtheitemsofstationarytoglanceup

towardstheceilingofthedrawer.Theyretaintheirintriguedexpressionsasfurtherrustling

isheard.

EXT.DeskSurface

ThesoundofthedraweropeningisheardasthesceneCUTSTOtheitemsofstationary

graduallypeeringupandovertheedgeofthedesk.

PANUPtowardstheFOUNTAINPEN,thelatestadditiontothedesk.Thecameratracksup

fromthefeettotheheadofFountainPen.TheFountainPenisseenlookingoffintothe

distance,actingaloofandstraighteningupitsappearance.

CUTTOtheotherstationary,astheBirohopsupoutofthedrawertowelcometheFountain

Pen,theotherstationaryremaininginplacewithinthedrawer.

SceneThree

TWOSHOToftheBiroreachingouttoshakethehandoftheFountainPen.TheFountainPen

glancesdowntowardsthehandoftheBiro,slowingraisingitsheadtolookingtheBirointhe

eye.

TheFountainPenleansbackwardswithaslightchuckleofdisbelief.TheFountainPenturns

awayfromtheBiro,itslaughtergrowing.TheBiroslowly,sheepishlyplacesitsarmbackby

itsside.

TheFountainPenbeginstocircletheBiro,lookingitupanddownandmockingitsappearancethroughflamboyantgestures.TheBirotrackstheFountainPensmovements

arounditself,remaininginoneplaceandsimplybendingandstretching,emulatingneck

movement.

TheFountainPencontinuestomovearoundtheBiro.Inkbeginstoleakfromthenibofthe

FountainPen,trailingbehinditasitmoves.

TheBironoticesthetrailanditsattentionshifts,trackingthetrailaroundit.

TheFountainPenisstunnedwithembarrassment,screamingabruptlyandshiftingfromits

relaxed,flamboyantstatetoarigidstateofterror.

TheFountainPeneventuallyfaints,revertingbacktoitsnatural,inanimatestate,andfalls

uponthedesk.
