Welcome to our 2012 Complete Cruise Brochure. After a challenging year in 2011, which will probably be

remembered for revolutions and concerns over the global economic uncertainty, we are now looking forward to what should be a very exciting year for the cruise industry. However it was not all bad news in 2011 as we saw some of the lowest cruise deals ever on www.cruise.co.uk as nervous passengers waited much later to book their cruises.

We are starting the year with some really great cruise deals which I

am sure will prove very popular. Destination cruising should continue to be popular as series like Frozen Planet have attracted the more adventurous travellers. The 6 star all inclusive cruising looks like it is here to stay and as there are no new luxury ships on the horizon I strongly advise you book early for the best luxury fares. And, just to prove that cruising is still growing despite any talk of recession we will see SIX new ships launched this year! Five of these will be resort style mega ships. The other new addition will be the premium plus Oceania Riviera, which will carry only 1200 passengers in great style, she will certainly be the one to try out. River cruising is fast becoming a new option for many ocean cruise passengers who like to travel in style in a more intimate surrounding. Again there are lots of new 4 and 5 star river vessels coming along in 2012 and if you want to nd out what river cruising is all about then take a look at our new companion 2012 Complete River Cruise Brochure. Whatever destination or cruise line choice you may be considering we look forward to hearing from you. We promise you the best advice and assistance plus exclusive rates on many cruises. Cruise.co.uk is constantly changing and continues to be the UKs top website for information, reviews and offers - so why not make it your rst port of call!

  • Where to go?Cruise ships visit a variety of places and ports so try to pick an itinerary that will suit those travelling. Study the ports of call and think about what each offers and whether those places are really suited to all concerned and dont exclude the ship itself from being the main attraction.

Where to sail from? There are now many cruises which start from the UK throughout the year so if you dont want to fly or just like to start from the UK you have many options. Many people like to start their cruise in other countries. Here you often have the option to use transportation provided by the cruise line or arranging your own. If a cruise line provides a chartered flight, it is so often better to use that than to try to go on your own because the allowance for not taking the flight is generally quite small. However, if the flights are by a scheduled airline, it may be worth arranging your own flights. Of course, you have to take into account that you will have to make your own way to/from the airport, and its advisable to go a day or two early to avoid any complications should there be a delay but that often gets you through the jet-lag period and allows you to acclimatise whilst adding to your holiday.

There are so many starting points around the world that keeps cruising so interesting and different.

What is my budget? You should know how much you want to spend and can afford, but be aware that the advertised price of a cruise is probably only half of the total cost. Even though your meals and most of your entertainment is free, your extras increase your spend substantially. Theres excursions and your purchases ashore, whether going on your own or using ships tours. Plus, on board souvenirs, duty-free goods, drinks, special meals, spa treatments, not forgetting gratuities of course, that all add up to larger sums than expected. It would also be wise to allow extra for pre and post cruise items, transport, accommodation and incidental depending on your situation.

Which cruise line/ship?Choosing the right ship to suit those travelling is so important. Too many complaints come from people who have failed to realise that certain ships appeal to certain factions of society and find that they are on ships which dont cater for children or cater mainly for families and so on.

Whilst we are here it is worth saying that certain cruise lines have certain cruise styles. If you would like a certain amount of dressing for dinner and Formal Nights then you will be happy with certain cruise lines and their ship but if you prefer a very casual approach then other cruise lines and ships may suit better. There are also cruise lines who slip in between these two stylings and have the self-service canteen open for those not wishing to join in with the formally dressed on the ship and yet other cruise lines which do not have Formal Nights but ask patrons to adopt a Smart Casual dress style. So there are ships to suit all styles but choosing the one which suits you is probably a wise move.

When to go?Sometimes people have no option on when to go, fixed times for holidays rule what is available.

If you are able to choose your cruising time then the world opens up and everywhere is available to you. Now we can re-engage question one Where to go? here. There are times when it is best to visit certain parts of the world just as there are times when they should be avoided. The Caribbean for instance is a great area but best visited in January to February and avoided in September to November. So combining both when to go and where to go is essential, elementary to many of you but worth saying as weather effects cruising as much if not more athan other holidays.

Selecting the right cabinSometimes price is the governing factor but when it is not then there are various things worth considering when making your choice.

If you are not a good sailor, even on the largest ships, a centrally situated cabin, amidships as we say, could be advisable and not too high up might be good advice too. Remember that inside cabins have no natural light but are the choice of many because they spend little time in them and the value for money is good. If you are a good

sailor the cabins which overlook the stern of the ship are generally snapped up as prime positions, they often have more space and much larger balconies as do the cabins on the Hump - the part of the ship that bulges out in the middle amidships part. Cabins which are worth avoiding are those too close to the bow where movement can be excessive and where the sound of the anchor being lowered or raised at inappropriate times can be annoying. Other cabins you might avoid are those directly over or under the theatre, any of the lounges or public areas and for me the ones immediate below the pool deck because of the noise of the deck chairs being rearranged after cleaning every morning and evening can ruin your sleep. Those close to the free laundry rooms can be problematic as well, but on the other hand those close to lifts are handy and not noisy.

Where + when to dine? When you book your cruise you will often be asked about your dining wishes.

Two standard types of set dining times exist on a large number of ships: Early - around 6-6.30pm and Late - around 8:30pm. But its not set in stone - if you want to change once youve tried it out, just see the Maitre d and he will normally be able to switch you to the other sitting. The same applies if you find that you dont fit in with your table companions; just ask for a change of table and it is normally done without a fuss. On offer are tables for 2, 4, 6 or 8 and sometimes 10. The hardest selection to obtain is a table for two and often these are either so close to other tables so that it makes no difference or tucked away in an uninteresting part of the dining room, you may be lucky and get an admirable one though.

Lately there is a further choice on many ships; that is a Flexible Dining style. Different cruise lines call it by deferring names, My Time, Any Time Freedom Dining and many others. This allows you to pick when you would like to eat in the evening and there will be an allocated area for this style of dining. This dining style is becoming very popular and so the earlier you book it the more likely you are to be offered it. One thing that most cruise lines have in common with flexible dining is that they insist that you pay the suggested gratuities when you book. Their reason is that because you may not have the same waiters serving you each time you dine it simplifies working out who you should tip.

Many experienced cruisers will do most or all of these checks automatically when choosing their next cruise. How many of them do you do? With more than 50 cruises under his belt, theres not a lot Neil Down doesnt know about cruising. As one of our top contributors on both Cruise.co.uk, and our forum - Cruises.co.uk, hes a fountain of knowledge helping people with questions, sharing his knowledge, and a few stories along the way. Here are some of Neils top tips to help you choose the right cruise.

Azamara Club Cruises is part of the Royal Caribbean group, meaning the familiar impeccable service, attention to detail and award-winning cuisine of the Royal Caribbean brand run through their veins. However, Azamara Club Cruises has a passion for destination and comfort at its core. Both ships, Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest capture the ambiance of premier European boutique hotels. This is evident in the modern staterooms, fi ne regional cuisine and world-class wine cellars which delight even the seasoned travellers.

Azamara Club Cruises smaller ships bring you closer to your destination and can access ports of call that larger ships cant reach: anchor off beautiful Sorrento, instead of docking in Naples and gaze in awe that your fi ngertips can almost touch the towering waterfalls as you sail through Norways spectacular fjords. Often referred to as the northernmost Caribbean city, New Orleans encapsulates pure joy and good-spirit. Despite hardships such as devastating Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans unoffi cial motto of laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll) summarises the way the locals embrace life. A melting pot of African, Spanish, French, Italian and Caribbean cultural infl uences, New Orleans is the perfect starting point for a deliciously exotic Caribbean and Central American itinerary. Being the city of jazz, New Orleans is also the ideal departure point for a colourful tour of Americas Music Cities as you journey to Memphis and Nashville.
