theComenius Project?
The Comenius Project is a cross curricular schemefunded by National Agencies to enable staff and pupils
to work along side partners in other countries.Comenius promotes learning about different cultures
through joint projects and visits.The Comenius Programme is
named after Jan AmosComenius, often considered
the father of moderneducation
Comenius is aimed at schools,colleges and local authorities
across Europe

Comenius has
two mainobjectives:
to develop knowledge andunderstanding among young people and
education staff of the diversity ofEuropean cultures and languages, and the
value of this diversity
to help young people to acquire basic
life skills and competences for theirpersonal development, for future
employment and for active Europeancitizenship

Whatyou
Can Take Part?If you work in a school, college, a local authority or a teacher
training institution you are likely to be eligible to take upopportunities offered through Comenius.Head Teachers,
Teachers
and Tutors
If you teach at any level in aschool or college you can takepart in a Comenius in-service
on your particular subjectarea.
You can also arrange foryour school to host a Comenius
assistant for between threeand ten months of the
academic year. If you are
working with young people inschools, help them broaden
Local Authorities andeducational advisers and
inspectors;
Other staff working in schooleducation;
Trainee teachers;
Teacher trainers and schooleducation specialists;
Adult Educators;
