In the Student-Parent Handbook, it states that “No food should be sent into schools for parties/events. Families, should they choose, may send in non-food items (e.g., pencils, erasers, books, etc.) to celebrate a student’s birthday.” While parties, events, and celebrations are acceptable - food being sent in from the outside is not acceptable. To be clear, no candy or other food items should be sent in with Valentine’s. MCAS Testing begins on March 18th. The full schedule can be found on Cole School’s website at http://www.norwellschools.org/Page/2 . As required by the state, no visitors will be allowed in the building during testing for any reason. Testing will begin at 9:10 each day. Tardy students will not be allowed to enter the classroom after this time and will take the test in another location. Please make every effort to have students at school by 8:55am. All students and staff participated in a Shelter in the Building drill on Thursday morning. Students and staff take shelter along the inner hallways of the building. The drill was completed in less than two minutes and all procedures were followed. Excellent work, Cole School! Kindergarten registration will be held on February 12th and 13th from 9:30-11:30 am at Cole School. The lottery drawing for full day kindergarten slots will take place at the PTO meeting on Monday, February 10th at 9am. Does your child have an interest or hobby that they’d like to share at Hobby Night ? Legos, My Little Pony, Coin Collections? If so, please encourage them to sign up using the form that was sent home this week. Hobby Night will be held on Wednesday, February 12th from 6-7 pm in the cafeteria. There has recently been an uptick in discipline referrals for unauthorized use of electronic devices. Students may bring electronic devices to school, but their use must be approved by a teacher or administrator. Electronic devices should not be used on buses unless prior approval has been granted. Please review this passage from the Parent/Student Handbook with your child:

Cole and Vinal Schools understand the benefit that certain electronic devices can provide to studentlearning. Students who wish to use an electronic device in a classroom setting for academic purposes or inschool must have prior approval by their individual classroom teachers and/or administration. If approval isgiven, the student is responsible for the device; the school will not be responsible in the event that the deviceis lost, stolen, or damaged while on school property.Cole and Vinal Schools also recognize the potential distraction that such electronic devices can create whenused at inappropriate times, in inappropriate places, or for non-academic purposes. Unauthorized studentuse of electronic devices such as cell phones, smart phones, music players, laser pointers, hand-held games, tablets, laptops, netbooks, or similar devices will result in the device being confiscated and given to anadministrator. The device will be returned to the student and/or the parent after a conference withadministration. Further disciplinary action may also be taken for the unauthorized use of the device.Multiple offenses may result in greater disciplinary action.
