R’ Elya Lopian was on a train traveling from Yerushalayim to Chaifah, when he made an unusual request to the police officer on board. He asked him to gather all his fellow policemen riding that train. The officers all surrounded the rabbi with respect, wondering what the rabbi could possibly want from them.

“My dear brothers,” R’ Elya said, “I want to recite a bracha and would like you all to answer amein.” R’ Elya began the blessing loud and clear with great kavanah, and was followed by a resounding amein.

Shortly after that, the train suddenly came to an abrupt halt. The police men responded immediately and exited the train to assess the situation, leaving all the passengers behind in shock.

The passengers sat there, anxiously, waiting for an explanation. Finally, after a while the officers appeared. The look on their face revealed that something serious just happened. The passengers surrounded them to hear what they had to say. The Seargent spoke up, his

voice trembling. “My fellow travelers, we have just witnessed an amazing miracle!” This train was seconds away from being blown up by a highly explosive bomb that had been uncovered on the tracks. Had we not stopped in time, we might not have lived to tell this story. Now it was clear to all why R’ Elya insisted that they all answer amen.

One of the officers later related that just hearing the Bracha from R’ Elya moved him so deeply, that it inspired him to do teshuvah.

B o o s t i n g Yo u r I m m u n e S y s t e m Winter is here and along comes sick days. Be it just a regular cold or a more severe flu, boosting your immune sys-tem is the best way to help you prevent and fight off these bugs. We will pro-vide you with information on only the most effective and proven strategies for improving your immune function.

What is your immune system? Your immune system is your body’s primary defense against viruses, bac-teria, and disease in general. It is an amazing and very complex system that involves many organs and millions of cells all working in harmony to protect you from harmful germs. It’s like an army of millions operating on many different fronts, with many different techniques and strategies, working tire-lessly nonstop to defend, protect you, and fight off foreign invaders.

Diet Following a healthy diet is the num-ber one and most fundamental factor to promote health, in general, as well as help boost your immune system. We

will highlight a few fundamentals: 1. Avoid all refined carbohydrates such as sugar, fruit juices, sweetened bever-ages and white flour. 2. If there is a mucus problem, avoid all dairy. 3. Drink plenty of water, Herbal teas are a good option too.4. Eat high quality protein; your body needs it for repair and for making new immune cells.5. Eat lots of colorful vegetables, as they are rich in anti-oxidants and con-tain vital nutrients.

Exercise Working out regularly is probably the single best thing you could do for your health, the benefits are endless. Strengthening your body will make you healthier and more resistant to disease. Once you are sick working out is not a good idea as your body needs the rest to rejuvenate. Yet, if you feel up to it, moderate exercise is always beneficial.
