HUNTSVILLE, October 25, 2013 — MP Clement
announced an investment by the Harper
Government to help create jobs, growth
and prosperity for the Parry Sound–Muskoka
region.
“The Harper Government is proud to invest in
initiatives that promote sustainable
economic growth in Parry Sound–Muskoka,”
said Minister Clement. “By supporting the
development of business accelerators and
incubators, our Government is helping to
spur innovation and providing entrepreneurs
with the tools they need to develop their
ideas and grow their operations, leading to a
stronger more diversified economy.”
FedNor funding of $443,700 will help create
both a business incubator and business
accelerator for the Parry Sound–Muskoka
region. Of the total, the Muskoka Community
Futures Development Corporation will receive
$333,730 to establish a business incubator that
will provide mentoring, coaching and training
programs, business readiness assessments, as
well as workshops to assist entrepreneurs
commercialize their products and ideas. And
$110,000 will enable Muskoka Community
MUSKOKA - Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement
today presented $15,894 in proceeds from his 2013 Tony
Clement Charity Golf Classic to Salvation Army
representatives in Bracebridge and Huntsville to assist
those most affected by the spring flooding which
ravaged the area.
“It is fitting that we are able to make this presentation on
a weekend when many of us are gathered with our
families to give thanks for our blessings. I know there
were many who came forward to assist those affected
by the floods. The people of Parry Sound-Muskoka have
always come together to help each other in times of
crisis, and I am glad I can also help through my
tournament,” said MP Clement. “I want to take this
opportunity to again thank all those who came out and
supported my golf tournament this year. Without them,
the presentation today would not be possible.”
The 2013 tournament was held this summer at the
Muskoka Bay Club in Gravenhurst. This year proceeds of
the tournament were divided between local flood
assistance and the Stan Darling Environmental
Education Fund, which provides annual scholarships to
students graduating from the area’s six high schools.
In Bracebridge, the funds were presented to Salvation
Army Lieutenant Fred Reid, and in Huntsville to Major
Darren Wiseman. The golf proceeds will be processed as
part of Bracebridge’s and Huntsville’s overall community
contributions, so that it may be eligible for 2 for 1
matching under The Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance
Program. The funds will be distributed with the help of
the Salvation Army, working in conjunction with local
Disaster Relief Committees, to those identified as most in
need following the flood. Each community received
$7,947 from the tournament.
Both Wiseman and Reid said there were many people in
their respective communities who were adversely
affected by the floods, and the contributions like the
one today from MP Clement, are helping families who
have had to struggle to get their lives back to normal.
Workers, Families to Benefit from European Union Trade Deal, says MP Clement
October 18, 2013, OTTAWA – Businesses in Parry Sound-
Muskoka and across the country stand to benefit greatly from
the announcement that Canada has reached an agreement
in principle on a Comprehensive Economic and Trade
Agreement (CETA) with the European Union, said Parry Sound-
Muskoka MP Tony Clement.
“This will open new markets to Canadian exporters
throughout Europe and generate significant benefits, new jobs
and opportunities for all Canadians,” said MP Clement. “I
have visited businesses across Parry Sound-Muskoka, including
Langford Canoe, MBRP Inc., Crofters, Ontario Graphite, Kent
Trusses and Bioscenta, that have indicated a deal of this
nature holds potential for growth.”
The Agreement will provide Canada with preferential market
access to the European Union’s more than 500 million
consumers. Canadian workers in every region of the country –
including in sectors such as fish and seafood; chemicals and
plastics; metal and mineral products; technology; forestry and
value-added wood products; automotive; advanced
manufacturing; and agriculture and agri-food – stand to
benefit significantly from increased access to this lucrative 28
country market which currently generates $17 trillion in annual
economic activity.
“This is a significant win for Canada. The benefits of this agreement
are equivalent to creating almost 80,000 new jobs,” said MP
Clement. “Increased trade opportunities also provide Parry
Sounders and Muskokans a greater choice of lower-priced goods
and services. This helps our families make ends meets, and can
boost our overall standard of living.”
When Canada trades, the whole country becomes more
competitive, as:
■Prices for goods and services fall;
■Wages, salaries and our standard of living rise;
■Businesses can hire more workers; and
■Canadian families benefit from greater choice and selection in
goods and services.
The elimination of 98 per cent of all EU tariffs on the first day that
the Agreement comes into force will translate into increased profits
and opportunities for Canadian businesses of all sizes in every part
of the country.
For example, the elimination of EU tariffs in the agricultural sector
and the fish and seafood sector will mean that lobster fishermen in
the Maritimes, maple syrup producers in Québec, apple growers in
Ontario, grain producers in the prairies, cherry growers in British
Columbia and arctic char farmers in the Yukon who export to the
EU will see their bottom lines improve.
Historic Nature of the Canada-EU Trade Agreement
CETA is by far Canada’s most ambitious trade initiative ever. It is
broader in scope and deeper in ambition than the historic North
American Free Trade Agreement:
■CETA will make Canada one of the only developed countries to
have preferential access to the world’s two largest markets – the
European Union and the United States.
■Access to these markets’ 800 million+ affluent consumers will
make Canadians the envy of trading nations all over the world.
■It will make Canada an even more attractive destination for
investors and manufacturers, which will create jobs and
opportunities for all Canadians.
Brent Statten of Langford Canoe in Dwight was the guest of MP
Clement to celebrate the tabling in Parliament of a trade
agreement with the EU in Ottawa on October 29, 2013.

Minister Shea Welcomes Applications for
Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships
Program Funding
OTTAWA, Ontario – The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and
Oceans, today announced that the Government of Canada is now
accepting funding applications for the second phase of the Recreational
Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program.
“Recreational fishing contributes significantly to our economy, especially in
rural areas,” said Minister Shea. “As outlined in Economic Action Plan 2013,
our Government is proud to support the restoration and rebuilding of
recreational fisheries habitat. We will continue to work with our partners to
protect Canada’s valuable oceans, lakes and rivers for future
generations.”
The Government of Canada is making $10 million available over two years
to support conservation activities through partnerships with local groups
who will undertake a variety of projects to restore recreational fisheries
habitat. Approximately 100 projects were approved for up to $6.4 million in
funding, in the first round of applications this summer.
DFO will accept applications for funding from November 4 to December
18, 2013. Additional program information as well as the application form
and guidelines are available on the Department’s web site at: www.dfo-
mpo.gc.ca/habitat/rfcpp-ppcpr/index-eng.asp.
Recreational fishing contributes significantly to the Canadian economy. In
2010, anglers generated $8.3 billion to local economies, an increase of 10%
over 2005. A 2010 survey found that over 3.3 million adult anglers
participated in a variety of recreational fishing activities in Canada,
essentially the same number as in 2005. Anglers fished for over 43 million
days. Almost 93% of activity occurred in fresh water. Canadian non-
resident and foreign anglers made over two million trips within Canada in
2010.

priorities vary widely.
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit
organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses
with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job
opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are
full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next
school year.
The application will be open from December 2, 2013 to
January 10, 2014. Visit http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca for
more info.
MP Clement called on the local community to
take action to prevent cyber and sexual
violence against women and girls.
“Violence against women and girls has
devastating and far-reaching effects on the
community,” said MP Clement. “The projects
supported by this call for proposals will reduce
violence against women in [CITY] and reach
out to those who have been affected by such
violence. I am proud of the Harper
Government’s support for grassroots initiatives
like these, which improve safety for women
where they live and work.”
The Harper Government will be funding these
new projects through a Status of Women
Canada call for proposals entitled Cyber and
Sexual Violence: Helping Communities
Respond.
Applications by organizations will be
accepted until December 1st, 2013. For more
information on the call for proposals and
eligibility requirements, please visit
women.gc.ca.
In addition to this new call for proposals, the
Harper Government recently announced in
the Speech from the Throne its intention to
introduce legislation that will give police and
prosecutors new tools to address
cyberbullying. This legislation will also create
a new criminal offence prohibiting the non-
consensual distribution of intimate images.
Since 2007, the Harper Government has
funded more than $62 million for projects to
end violence against women and girls
through the Women’s Program at Status
of Women Canada. Government of
Canada support for community-based
projects has nearly doubled since 2006-
2007, supporting more than 600 projects
across the country.
Later this month, the Harper Government
will recognize 16 Days of Activism Against
Gender Violence, and will mark the
International Day for the Elimination of
Violence against Women on November
25, 2013, as well as Canada’s National
Day of Remembrance and Action on
Violence against Women on December 6,
2013.
