FADE IN:
EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD-NIGHT
The moon hovers over the sleepy neighborhood.
LILY and EVAN walk on the sidewalk, Evan's arm around Lily. Both are twenty year old, college students. They carry book bags over their shoulders.
Lily is a stunning blonde with rosy cheeks and dons ruby red lipstick.
Evan is the jock type. Boyish good looks that don't match the personality and a build perfect for sports.
Behind Lily and Evan is MIRA (late teens), a short and petite young woman with brown skin and wavy, black hair. She pulls her bag up on her shoulder.
EVANMira, you back there?
MIRAStill here, Evan.
LILYYou're quiet tonight.
MIRAAm I?
Mira tunes out Lily's response as she gazes at the sky and its full moon.
LILYI was thinking-for the Halloween party, I should get a live band instead of a DJ.
EVANWhat? No one's going to that.
LILYYou ALL are going. I'm on the planning committee.

A streetlight flickers.
Mira glances at the streetlight as the two in front of her bicker.
MIRAYou know, you two didn't have to walk me to the library.
Evan and Lily stop.
Evan drapes an arm around Mira.
Lily wraps her arm around Mira's.
EVANWe couldn't possibly have our little sister out here by herself.

Mira sighs.
MIRAAiden's on campus. So I wouldn't have walked home alone.
EVANThat guy. He's probably lying about being tutored. Needed a break from our Lord.
Mira scowls at Evan.

They approach a four story, lit brick building.
FEW STUDENTS enter and exit, book bags on their shoulders ready for an all nighter.
EVANNot the place I wanted to be tonight.

INT. LIBRARY-NIGHT
Mira, Evan, and Lily enter.
A GROUP OF GUYS sit at the table as loud as can be.
One of the guys shouts:
GUYEvan!
EVANLet me know when you're done, ladies!
Evan jogs to the group and high fives each.
LILYHe's so irritating.

Mira and Lily climb the stairs and move toward a bookcase.

Mira, pulling out a book, says:
MIRAThis. Are you okay? You look a little pale.
LILYI'm okay. Just working too much. Not enough sleep. Evan's voice.
MIRASit at one of the tables. I'm going to look for Aiden, and then we'll head back.
Lily nods.
CUT TO:
Mira climbs another staircase and looks through each closed conference room.
VOICE (O.S)Mira.
Mira spins around.
A student with a handsome face smiles at her.
HANDSOME STUDENTAre you still free tomorrow to tutor me?
MIRAUh-yes. That shouldn't be a problem.
HANDSOME STUDENTGreat. I'll see you tomorrow around four?

VOICE (O.S)Wipe the drool off your face.
Mira spins around to find Aiden.
Aiden gives a new meaning to tall, dark, and handsome. Dark hair, light brown eyes, muscular built.
MIRAI'm not drooling!
Aiden, shifting his books, says:
AIDENSure. Where is everyone?
MIRALily's on the second floor, and Evan is..being Evan. He's on the first floor.
AIDENOf course.
MIRAI don't know why you won't let me tutor you.
AIDENYou have enough going on.
MIRAWe all do. Doesn't mean I can't tutor you. I'm tutoring Lily. Evan twice a week.
AIDENThat too.
MIRAJust think about it. Lets get Lily and head home.

Lily checking her makeup in her compact mirror.

Lily snaps the compact mirror closed.
INT. TRAINING HALL-NIGHT
THEODORE tosses Evan onto the mat...hard.
EVANOuch.
THEODOREIs that it?
Evan, leaping up, says:
EVANOf course not!
Theodore (early 30s) is the guardian of the four characters introduced. A rowdy appearance of that of a giant.
The two exchange blows as they practice their martial arts.
Evan is swift on his feet, though Theodore packs heat.
On the sidelines is Aiden, observing as he wipes the sweat from his brow.
Mira enters in sweat pants and a t-shirt.
THEODOREAww, baby girl has arrived.
Evan is sprawled out on the floor.
THEODORE(to Evan)
Get up. Mira's turn.
Evan rises and limps off the floor.

THEODOREYes, I am.
EVANMy shoulder is dislocated!
THEODOREStop your whining!
Mira stands in front of Theodore just a child compared to his physique.
THEODOREReady?
MIRAReady.
Mira and Theodore both get into their fighting stance, Mira's a slight Wing Chun stance while Theodore's is a boxing stance.
Theodore strikes first.
Mira pivots.
The two exchange quick blows both evading each other's attacks.
EVANHmph.
AIDENJealousy doesn't suit you.
Evan side-eyes Aiden.
AIDENAnd that's why she's our leader.
THEODORE(to Mira)
What else do you have?
Mira, pounding both fists, shouts:

Light!
Mira's fists glow white.
THEODOREYes!
Mira in two swift motions grapples Theodore and tosses him to the mat and with another. She raises her fist, and just before she pummels Theodore...
Lily, peeking inside, shouts:
LILYDinner's ready!
Mira grins at Theodore and offers him a hand.
MIRANice job, Teddy.
THEODOREAlways a pleasure.
EVAN(to Theodore)
I want a rematch!
THEODOREI didn't even win!
As Evan and Theodore bicker...
...Aiden hands Mira a TOWEL.
The two smirk.
INT. DINING ROOM-NIGHT
Our five characters are gathered around the table eating stew and bread, a rowdy bunch.
LILYI think it'll be fun!

Evan scowls.
Lily applauds in light spirits.

Mira enters.

Mira closes her door and turns off the lights.
What little light there is comes from the full moon, though we see a twin sized bed in the corner near a nightstand.
Mira climbs into bed, eyes out the window.
INT. DINING ROOM-NIGHT
A dim lamp is on.
Theodore sits at the table with a LAPTOP deep in thought.
Aiden in a wife beater and sweats enters yawning.

Aiden peeks over Theodore's shoulder at the laptop.

THEODOREYeah, there are reports of people walking around downtown with pure black eyes, and when they're approached, they give a dry response as if a dry personality, if one at all. One officer said she felt 'utter dread'. 'Fear'.

The campus is bustling with students coming and going on a chilly afternoon.

MIRAAnd we're just headed downtown?
AIDENYep. Here we go.

For a cool afternoon, the canal is bustling with movement.
A woman sits at one of the benches, facing away from the canal.
Aiden approaches her.
Mira follows Aiden behind.

KIM (KIM)Yes.
Aiden extends his hand.
Kim accepts and shakes it.
AIDENI'm Aiden. We've been emailing each other? And this is my classmate, Mira.
Mira, shaking Kim's hand, says:

KIMMore like what he didn't have. Usually downtown you'll see men carrying briefcases or some kind of bag. He had nothing. Like he just up and left where ever he came from.

Mira and Aiden enter the well-taken care of property.
Few leaves are scattered on the terrain. No one seems to be on the property.
MIRAShe definitely could've told us it was the cemetery.
AIDENHow would that have been fun?
Mira and Aiden tread a path that leads deeper into the cemetery.
MIRAHow are we supposed to find some ghoul, if that's what it is, from last week?
Aiden stops, gazing far ahead.
AIDENWe could find a man in business attire.
MIRAWhat?
Aiden points forward to...
...a man lying in between trees dressed in a suit.
Mira and Aiden exchange glances and dart toward the man.

The motionless, PALE MAN (50s) appears as if not even a hair has been moved on his head.
MIRALook at his eyes.
Aiden bends down and checks the man's eyes.
Normal.
Aiden looks up at Mira.
MIRALets check for any identification.
Mira bends down and checks his pockets pulling out a WALLET. Inside the wallet is an ID.
It reads "DONALD S. TROYER".
MIRAThis is all the way across town.
AIDENHe could've been downtown for work.
MIRAI wonder if he's listed as missing.
AIDENHas to be.
Mira, standing, takes her phone out.
MIRAI'll call Theodore.
INT. DINING ROOM-DAY
Theodore is at the table on the laptop. Near it is his

Mira hangs up her phone.
AIDENNo sign of a struggle, and he couldn't have just dropped dead.
MIRAOh??
AIDENYou think whatever was inside him just dropped him off here?
MIRAIf a demon was inside him or whatever possessed him, yeah. That would mean he was no longer useful, but that would mean...
AIDENWhat?
MIRAWhatever took possession of him found a new host.
Mira glances around, her eyes descending to a white object in the bush.
MIRABingo.
Mira picks up an ID.
INT. DINING ROOM-DAY
Theodore stands up when...

Evan stands to the side with his arms crossed and a scowl.
Lily knocks on the front door.
It creaks open.
An ELDERLY WOMAN peeks her head out.
ELDERLY WOMANYes?
LILYHi, ma'am. We're students of Laura and had some questions about the next exam.
ELDERLY WOMANYou're in Laura's class? I'm sorry. She isn't here. She should be on her way home. Would you like to come in and wait?

EVANNo, ma'am. That's okay. We can just email her. She said she'd be home around this time.
ELDERLY WOMANWell she usually stops by the cemetery and visits her father. Poor soul. He didn't treat my daughter right, but he was still Laura's father.

The elderly woman smiles back at them, holding up a piece of paper treading back to them.
Evan, smiling at the old lady, says:

Evan and Lily enter.
Theodore looks up from his laptop.

EVANWe checked out the address and saw our missing person come out.
LILYWe also went to campus to get some more information on her. Algebra professor at a community college.
THEODOREAnything else?
LILYNone of her colleagues knew about a book club. You'd think she would share information about that, right? Get her students and colleagues involved.
THEODORESo we found our missing person.
LILYAnd get this, none of them came out with books.

Mira sits on the passenger side, Aiden on the driver side.

MIRAI don't know, but hopefully we'll find out. Lets go.
Mira climbs out of the car, Aiden grabbing a FLASHLIGHT from the glove compartment.

EXT. WOODS/CONTINUOUS
Mira and Aiden tread into the woods, we hear the crackling of leaves beneath their feet.
Aiden turns on the flashlight, illuminating their narrow path.
AIDENShould've had Lily and Evan do this.
MIRADefinitely. This is not ideal.
Aiden leads the way, Mira following suit.
In the distance they hear chanting.
MIRA(whispering)
Do you hear that?
AIDEN(whispering)
Yeah.
MIRATurn off the flashlight.
Aiden turns off the flashlight. Their path darkens.
Mira, pointing, whispers:
MIRAThat way.
Aiden and Mira divert their path. In the distance they see a campfire, SEVERAL MEMBERS of THE BOOKCLUB surrounding it as they wear all black chanting in Latin.
Mira and Aiden conceal themselves behind a tree.
MIRABring up that picture Evan sent you.
Aiden takes out his phone and brings up a PHOTO OF THE MISSING WOMAN, a college ID of a smiling woman.

Aiden finds the missing woman behind the campfire chanting.
AIDENWell. We found our missing person.
MIRAThey're chanting in Latin. Never good.

A woman steps forward.
BOOKCLUB GOER (BOOKCLUB GOER)Silence!
The chanting stops.
BOOKCLUB GOERTonight we're here to do our duty. We bring forth a soul to our dark lord.
CUT TO:
MIRAUgh...never good.
CUT TO:
BOOKCLUB GOERGwen! Bring forth the soul.
GWEN, the missing woman, steps forward and raises her hand to the flames. Her hand glows white as if holding an encircled ball of fog.
CUT TO:
Mira and Aiden glance at each other.
AIDENWitches?
MIRAWitches.

Before either could reply, a gust of wind blows them toward the campfire, and they land near the campfire.
Mira and Aiden glance up to find A HOODED WOMAN ambling toward them. She must've discovered them.
AIDENWell, damn.
The bookclub goers peer down at them.
BOOKCLUB GOERWhat is this?
HOODED WOMANFound them lurking.
The hooded woman joins her fellow members in their circle.
BOOKCLUB GOERWho are you?
Mira and Aiden go to stand up.
BOOKCLUB GOERSit down!
A gust of wind from above repels them back to the ground.
AIDENOuch.
BOOKCLUB GOERWhat are you doing here?
MIRAWhat are doing here? Collecting you souls?
The bookclub goer chuckles.
BOOKCLUB GOERPerhaps, but it isn't what you think. We only take the souls of those who deserve it.
AIDENWho would deserve that?! The man you left for dead at the cemetery?

BOOKCLUB GOERHe deserved it! A financial officer that denied mortgage loans to black and brown people. You'd rather have that kind of person walking around? Hurting people?
MIRAYou can't determine who lives and who dies. It's not your call.
The bookclub goer, chuckling, says:
BOOKCLUB GOERIt isn't? Then why is it that I can do it? Gwen!
Gwen tosses the SOUL into the campfire, a screech emerging from it.
MIRANo...
BOOKCLUB GOERHis actions affected individuals-families. We may not be able to stop all the bad in the city, but we can stop a few.
MIRAHow? How do you manage to get your victims? That man in the cemetery? How did you lure him there?
BOOKCLUB GOERSimple. We conjured up a demon to possess him and lure him to the cemetery, where Gwen waited.
AIDENThat's pretty disgusting. He was probably someone's husband. Someone's father-someone's son!
BOOKCLUB GOERHe was so why would he do this to himself?
AIDEN'Himself'?

The bookclub goer raises her hands forward and chants in Latin.
SHADOWS manifest around Mira and Aiden.
BOOKCLUB GOER(to Mira and Aiden)
I'm sorry.(to shadows)
Devour them!
Aiden, grabbing Mira, shouts:
AIDENCome on!
Aiden and Mira dart into the woodland, the shadows following close behind.
AIDENMira!
Mira stops, faces the shadows, and raises her hand.
A shield of light manifests and blocks the attacks of the shadows.
One shadow manifests into a demon, evading the shield and striking Aiden.
Aiden and the demon exchange blows, another shadow evading the shield becoming a demonic form. He exchanges blows with both demons.
MIRAAiden!
Mira throws her hand forward.
A GREAT SWORD is tossed to Aiden.
Aiden catches the Great Sword striking down the demons.
Mira tosses her hands ups.
A streak of lightning enters into Mira's hands.

Mira propels her hands forward, lightning striking the shadows.
The shadows dispel.
More shadows appear levitating toward Mira and Aiden, encircling the siblings.
Aiden gets into his fighting stance, his sword ready to go on the offense.
The shadows evolve into demons and attack.
Mira and several demons exchange blows, Mira showing off her martial art skills.
Aiden evades blows striking down several demons.
Mira knocks her fists together, which now glow white. She dodges and exchanges blows until...
...no more demons stand forth.
AIDENWell.
Mira lifts her hand toward Aiden, his sword vanishing.
MIRAMake the call.
CUT TO:
The witches chant in a circle until...
...CHANTRY PRIESTS rush forward frightening them. They wear white, chantry robes with sky blue stripes that travel down the arms. Each carries a staff.
CUT TO:
Mira and Aiden next to the car observe as the priests lead the witches out with their hands in front of them, lightning-like cuffs around their wrists to prevent magic.
The priests enter a white circle drawn on the ground, a light emerges from said circle, and the priests vanish with the witches.
We now only hear the sound of the cicadas.

AIDENWith a side of demons, am I right?
Mira rolls her eyes not able to stop the smile from appearing on her face.
MIRATeddy is probably worried. We should head back.
AIDENAgreed.
EXT. CEMETERY-DAY
A funeral is being held for the man found in the cemetery. From the numbers he had many family members and friends that adored him.
Dressed in black attire at a distance are the siblings, watching from afar.
THEODOREI wish we could tell the family what really happened.
MIRAIt's best that they didn't know. It's best no one knew.
THEODOREYeah.
LILYI wish we could've done something to stop this. Anything.
MIRAMe too. He was in the paper once. I found an article on him. Turns out he helped a black family that was turned down by most banks they applied for. They were able to get their first house.

Mira lays in bed motionless, eyes closed as the moonlight filters through the drapes hitting her profile. Abruptly she sits up, eyes still closed. She climbs out of bed and opens her door.
INT. EVAN'S BEDROOM-NIGHT
Evan sits in bed reading over notes in his textbook.
The bedroom door is creaked open.
Only a reading lamp illuminates the room.
Outside his room, Evan hears a door closing. He climbs out of bed and exits the room.
INT. HALL-CONTINUOUS
Evan enters. He notices another bedroom door open.
It's Mira's.
EVANMira?
Evan peeks inside, and ...
...Mira isn't in bed.

Evan dashes down the hall and bangs on a closed door.

A CIRCLE that cuts into the dimension manifests.
Mira steps out from the circle, eyes still closed, hand raised forward. She drops her hand down.
The circle vanishes.
Mira is in a circular, grand plain of the woodland.
At the end of this woodland is cliff with a high view of below.
Mira treads toward the cliff. She raises her hand.
Her hand glows white.

For a second, we catch a glimpse of a path that leads to the other side of the woodland.
INT. VEHICLE-NIGHT
Aiden parks his car.
Aiden, Lily, and Evan leap out.
CUT TO:
Outside the car...
EVANWhat makes you think she's here?
AIDENI don't know. She was hear last time. Better than nothing.
Aiden darts into the woodland, Lily and Evan following behind.
CUT TO:
Mira with her hand still raised.
Her eyes open, revealing eyes as a bright as a starlit sky.
MIRA(in Latin)
The path shall open.
Her voice is not her own. It is deep, monotone.
We catch a glimpse of the path.
AIDEN (O.S.)Mira!
Mira lowers her hand peering over her shoulder.
AIDENMira, wake up.
Aiden tries to step toward Mira.
Evan raises an arm to stop him.

Aiden rushes to Mira.
Mira peers over her shoulder and raises a hand to him.
A gust of wind repels Aiden back, knocking him to the terrain.
LILYAiden!
Aiden looks up to find Mira darting toward him with his own Great Sword.
Mira raises the sword nearly striking him.
Aiden evades the attack with both hands grasping his own blade.
Evan darts toward Mira.
AIDENEvan, no!
Mira raises her hand toward Evan.

A gust of wind repels Evan back.
Mira raises Aiden's Great Sword swinging it down.
Aiden leaps back then forward toward Mira.
LILYHow is she able to wield that?
EVANIt's not her!
Evan darts toward Mira.
Aiden and Evan exchange attacks with Mira who evades with precision.
EVANGet your sword!
Anthony grasps Mira's arm.
Mira releases the blade.
As the blade drops to the surface, Aiden grasps it.
Mira chuckles. She exchanges blows with the two, Evan being knocked to the ground. Mira grapples Aiden and causes him to tumble.
A LANCE manifests into her hand.
Mira hurls it toward Evan.
Evan barely evades as the lance's blade lands into the ground he covered. He pulls the lance from the soil and darts toward Mira.
LILYWhat are you doing?!
EVANThis is not Mira!
Aiden darts to Evan to stop him.
EVANMove!
AIDENStop!

Evan swats Aiden away. The two begin exchanging attacks.
EVANWhat are you doing? She'll kill us!

Mira, chuckling, raises her hand and a BOW and ARROW mainfests. She raises it up, loads the bow with the arrow, and points it toward Evan.
LILYGuys!
Mira shoots.
Evan blocks the arrow with his lance.
EVANShe's conjuring up our weapons to kill us.
AIDENWe have to get those cuffs on her.
An arrow manifests into the bow.
Mira shoots at Aiden...
...Then Evan...
...Then Aiden.
Lily stealthily sidesteps toward Mira, unbeknownst to her. Just as she reaches her, Lily tackles Mira from behind.
The bow drops to the ground.
Lily picks up her bow and arrow, pointing it toward Mira ready to fire.
MIRAYou'd shoot?
LILYAbsolutely. Now why don't you wake up for me?

Mira scowls.
Evan and Aiden jog up to Lily, Aiden taking out the CUFFS.
Mira lifts up both hands ready to be cuffed.
Aiden cuffs Mira.
Mira faints, falling backwards.
Aiden and Evan breathe a sigh of relief, Lily putting her bow to the side.
INT. MIRA'S BEDROOM-NIGHT
Mira is asleep in bed, the moon once again illuminating her profile. Not a hair on her head is out of place.
INT. DINING ROOM-NIGHT
Theodore slams his fist against the table scolding Evan, Aiden, and Lily.
THEODORE(to Evan)
You should have been watching her!
Evan lowers his head.
THEODOREAnd all three of you should've known to come get me!
AIDENIt's my fault. I rushed out the door.
THEODOREIt's all of your faults! You should know not to engage Mira without me there!
LILYWe weren't thinking, Teddy.
THEODOREYou weren't thinking!
(sighing)I'll have to inform the other circles.
