A brief history of St. John’s

In 1891 twelve dedicated men and women gathered in their newly acquired church facility in Sauk City to organize a Lutheran congregation

In 1911 the Universalist congregation in PdS disbanded and their facility was purchased by St. John’s and dedicated in January, 1912. This building is now St. James Lutheran

In the mid-1960’s St. John’s had again grown out their facility. With land purchased in the 1950s construction was started on Oak Street in 1965

Our fellowship hall was in the education wing. Two of the larger rooms accordion dividers, allowing larger gathering areas when needed…

By the mid-1990’s we had outgrown our facility.
Finance and building committees were formed, the congregation was polled for suggestions and a new direction to grow our ministry was established.
