This will be your guiding question throughout the whole process. God created with you with a purpose and unique gifts – maybe some you’ve discovered, or maybe some you haven’t.

With this thought in mind, consider a few things when visiting colleges and getting a feel for student life:

1. What kind of environment do you want to be in?2. What types of people do you want investing in your life?3. Will your spiritual life be supported here?

What is God calling you to? Whether you have a clear picture or are still figuring it out, your college years should equip you for what God has made you to do.

As with many things in life, there are pros and cons to attending a college or university with a big campus or a small one. Lancaster Bible College is on the smaller side, but growing: we have over 2,000 students across main campus, our other locations and online.

While LBC isn’t the biggest college around, our size allows us to offer a lot: a robust campus life, smaller class sizes that allow for professor-student interactions, NCAA III athletics, tons of fun activities for residential and commuter students, opportunities for students from all different majors to get involved with theatre productions, worship teams and so much more. There are so many ways for you to get involved in life at LBC. Many students tell us that they love the family-feel on campus: professors know your name, ask for prayer requests and act as mentors and teachers. That’s not something you get everywhere.

Plus, Lancaster is an ideal, right-in-the-middle-of-it-all location: Washington D.C., New York City, Baltimore and Philadelphia are all within a three-hour drive of campus. And don’t overlook Lancaster County as a must-see destination. We’ve got the rolling hills and farmland that people often associate us with, but there’s more. Lancaster also boasts a thriving arts scene – including the college’s downtown venue, The Trust Performing Arts Center – it’s an up-and-coming foodie destination according to The New York Times and has frequently been cited by big publications like Forbes as one of the coolest cities to visit in the U.S. Don’t believe us? Come and see it for yourself.

This should certainly be a deciding factor for college students. If you know what you want to study, make sure the college offers it! If you’re not totally settled on what you want to study, this isn’t as much of an issue. While we’re a Bible college, we do much more than what many might expect with a name like that: we offer degrees in business, counseling, social work, musical theatre, sport management, education, healthcare management, accounting and much more. Our graduates have gone on to do some pretty impressive things: we have alumni working at Facebook, Under Armour, government agencies, overseas as missionaries and serving right here in Lancaster as pastors, teachers and more.

Something else that makes LBC unique is that all of our traditional undergraduate majors are required to take at least 30 Bible credits, which equals out to about 10 classes. This means, depending upon your selected major, you’ll graduate with either a dual major or dual degree in biblical studies and your program.

This is a crucial question to consider. You’re putting in four years of hard work for that next big step, but how can you guarantee you’ll be ready? Well, LBC was listed at 3rd place for career preparation by The Wall Street Journal in its 2018 college rankings, and for good reason: our students complete internships as a required part of most majors, are taught by experienced professors and given tons of opportunities for hands-on learning.

For starters, communication majors interested in radio broadcasting have the chance develop and record their own online radio shows right here on campus. Our musical theatre majors take part in the college’s shows and local shows at prestigious theatre companies. And sport management students get to see what it’s really like to be a race director when they help create and produce our annual 5K mud run. All that to say, there’s so many opportunities for you to learn about your career in the field.

There are so many more ways that we help set students up for success post-graduation, including giving our students access to our Career and Counseling Center where they can meet with advisors who help them shape their resumes – and that’s to say nothing of the numerous practical and applicable lessons about your field of interest.

If faith is an integral part of your life, you’ll want to choose a college that has supports in place for you. While attending a Bible college is not a requirement of being a Christian, we definitely have plenty of resources on campus to grow your faith – both inside the classroom and outside.

Aside from our thrice-weekly all-campus chapel services where students and staff worship and learn together, professors take prayer requests at the beginning of class, students and staff members host Bible studies on campus and in their homes, there are opportunities for formal and informal mentorship – and you’ll be surrounded by fellow Christians who are dedicated to their beliefs. At LBC, we believe in life-on-life discipleship.

ARE THERE PROGR AMS TO HELP ME GROW SPIRITUALLY?

“I think that taking Bible classes is vital to building your foundation in your faith first and allowing that to guide everything you do, in any career. I learned so much and matured as a Christian from my time at LBC.” – Jason Zimmerman (’12)
