Peyo Yavorov Chitalishte in Haskovo was established in 1982. Main chitalishte goals include:
Strengthening civil society; supporting wide local community groups through cultural activities;
creating conditions for communication and education.
The chitalishte achieves these goals through: maintenance of a
generally accessible library; creation and maintenance of
artistic and creative ensembles, organization of cultural and
educational events.

The Library
The collection of the library at
Peyo Yavorov Chitalishte
includes more than 7,000 volumes of fiction and
other literature of various areas of knowledge.

In 2007-2008, 1,386 volumes of new literature were purchased. The funds were provided under approved projects of the Chitalishte Board under the Ministry of Culture’s program “Bulgarian Libraries: Modern Centers for Reading and Information”.

Library patrons include 209 people of various age groups and borrowed books for 2012 are 3,249.

An important part of the development of Peyo Yavorov 1982 Chitalishte is its participation in the Global Libraries – Bulgaria Program launched in 2010.
For the purposes of chitalishte work, the program provided three computer configurations and a multimedia.

LIBRARY INFORMATION CENTER
In May 2011, the library information center was officially opened.

For one year, the information center trained 27 chitalishte
members aged 55–83 years in basic computer skills.

The training enables elderly people to gain self-confidence and provides opportunities for communication via email and
Facebook, direct contacts with families living abroad.

The equipment provided under the Global Libraries Program enables us not only to create promotional materials for our cultural and educational events, but also to publish the Zornitsa literary almanac, children’s coloring books for Christmas and Easter and we are able to help our patrons find online materials on various topics.
The chitalishte has its own Facebook page where we publish materials on our events.

The events organized and conducted by the chitalishte focus on meeting the cultural needs of the residents of the neighborhoods it operates in.

Любителско творчество
The amateur performers of Peyo Yavorov Chitalishte, led by their great love of art, do not spare any strength or energy. They do their best to promote Bulgarian folklore and arts not only in Haskovo and Bulgaria, but also far beyond the borders of our country.

. .The ensemble was created in 1999. It comprises of dancers aged 17–35 years.
The artistic manager of the ensemble is the choreographer Vasko Dimov. While the ensemble’s repertoire is based on the Thracian ethnographic region, it includes works from other regions of Bulgaria.
Southerners Dance Ensemble performs diverse concert activities in Bulgaria and abroad. It is the winner of the golden key of Ismailia from the International Folklore Festival in Egypt in 2000.

First prize and plaque winner from the International Rose and Tourism Festival held in Isparta, Turkey, in 2001 and 2004. First prize winner for performance and accompaniment from the International Folklore Festival held in Velika Gorica, Croatia, in 2002.

The St. Lazarus Day group was founded in 2003. Its director is Ms. Rositsa Dimova.
The group performs authentic folklore from the village of Zhulti Bryag, Haskovo district
Participants throughout the years have included school girls from Aleko Konstantinov Primary School and Sts. Cyril and Methodius Primary School.

The Folklore Fans Club was founded in 2006 by the choreographer Mr. Vasko Dimov and parents of dancers from the children’s dance ensemble. Later on, Ms. Galina Shtereva became the manager of the club. Club participants include more than 70 people.
