came to be who they were
Had six main festivals a year
Would look in a crystal to say if they would live

Past Did not view the Earth as it's
mother.
The word Cherokee means principle people or people of god.
Cherokee people only adored the one great spirit
Present All practice Christianity, but
still have traditional ceremonies.
A traditional ritual for the Cherokee Indians is the going down to the water ritual.
Go to church as any other person would.

Pottery and Baskets
Past Pottery made from black clay
-crushed shells, mica, and plants for color
Baskets made from river cane, white oak, honey suckle, & hickory bark -dyes were only black walnut and blood root
Present Pottery still made from black
clay-different types of glaze and paints for color
Baskets still made from same materials as in the past but...dyes include butternut, yellow root, and sedge for brighter colors
