THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A TRUE DISCIPLE - PART II

Text: Luke 10:38-42; Galatians 5:22 (patience, kindness, goodness)

Let's See How These Characteristics are Blended into this Discourse of Jesus.

I. PATIENCE (Luke 10:38-40)

"The LORD, the LORD the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness."

Exodus 34:6

II. KINDNESS (GENTLENESS - KJV - Luke 10:41)

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14. And overall these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."

Colossians 3:12-14

"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate (gentle KJV), submissive, full of mercy, and good fruit, impartial and sincere."

James 3:17

Kindness or gentleness should never be confused with

weakness . . . Gentleness or kindness is power under control.

I find that a person who is kind/gentle is not far from

the heart and hand of God.

III. GOODNESS (Luke 10:42)

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him (treasure of his heart - KJV)."

Matthew 12:35

"was always doing good and helping the poor."

Acts 9:36

Our goodness as a Christian is shown in our word, work and will based upon the role model of Christ.

"Taste and see that the Lord is good."

Psalm 34:8
