What was the Civil Rights Movement?
Was the fight for equal opportunities in jobs, housing, and education for African Americans.
Was also the fight against segregation
Jim Crow Laws
• Review Question: What were Jim Crow laws?
• Answer: Laws that required African Americans and whites to be separated in almost every way.
• Jim Crow = Segregation
“Separate but equal”• 1896 Plessy V. Ferguson : Supreme Court case
upholds that “separate but equal” is OK, is the justification for Jim Crow laws
• 1954 Brown v. Board of Education: Overturns Plessy, "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." Paves the way for school integration and the Civil Rights movement
