Greetings, If you’re not familiar with us, The Chaldean American Student Association at Oakland University is a student run organization that focuses on community service, networking, and charity. Every year we hold an annual event, our CASAblanca Fashion Show, to benefit the Special Needs Program of the Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC). This will be our eighth year and it will be taking place at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak on Friday February 24th, 2017. CASAblanca is different from most events because our guests get to experience a unique combination of fashion, shopping, and fun. Each annual event, we start off with the fashion show, where approximately 30 student models walk down the runway displaying looks from local trendy boutiques and styled by sponsoring salons. Once the production is completed, the runway is taken away and the area is transformed into a dance floor that everyone can enjoy for the rest of the night. When guests want to take a break from dancing and eating after the show, they can go upstairs to our Gallery Space to browse and purchase from various vendors. We have a wonderful team ensuring that CASAblanca runs great, but this event would not be possible without contributions from generous sponsors. Last year we donated a record-breaking $17,250 to CALC’s program! We want to raise as much as possible this year to help out with this amazing assistance program. This is why we are reaching out and personally inviting you to participate as a sponsor for this year’s event. In appreciation, we offer your company maximum exposure to the wide array of students that attend the event. Last year we topped over 600 in attendance and we’re expecting that number again, if not more. So I invite you to join us to make a difference together and participate in our event. I’ve attached sponsorship options and more information about the cause. If you’re interested feel free to contact me at (248) 824-3226 or [email protected]. Sincerely,

Myrna Siba President, OU CASA

Our faith emphasizes to us that the responsibility of those who are lucky is to reach out and help those who are not. This principle is what led a group of woman in 1961 to meet one morning after church, put some money together and use it to assist families who just migrated to the US. Fast forward 55 years, and this organization has evolved into the Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC), a large nonprofit charitable organization that serves the underprivileged of the community and tremendously helps the the Chaldean Refugee community in Southeastern Michigan.

Sadly, there exists a segment of the refugee population that is commonly forgotten yet in most need of assistance. This is the special needs population. As anyone who has a family member with special needs can tell you, it is not just the individual who faces many challenges, but the entire family. Now imagine facing these challenges in a new land, one with a different culture and language. This is what has motivated CALC to step in, and focus their resources on helping this at- risk population. Year round, CALC provides a variety of services to help the families of those with special needs, including a mentor program, field trips/summer camps, and behavioral health counseling on site. We at OU CASA applaud these efforts, and are proud to say that 100% of the funds raised at CASAblanca 2017 will be going to CALC’s Special Needs Program, which will help these programs continue on into the future.

America: a beacon of freedom, opportunity, and most importantly safety. The promises of this great land have inspired hundreds of millions of people from around the world to emigrate to the safety of our borders, in order to flee the chaos of their homeland and contribute to the great American project. Amongst them, the Chaldean People, an ancient ethnic group whose history spans tens of thousands of years. Predominately Catholic, this proud group resides in the villages of northern Iraq and still speaks Aramaic, the language of Jesus Christ. Facing increasing persecution in their native land, the last century has seen a huge migration of Chaldeans to the Detroit Metro Area. Thousands of people, with nothing but the clothes on their back, escape to a land where they can practice their faith freely and live in a land where death, kidnaping, and rape isn't their greatest fear.

Now imagine facing these challenges in a new land, one with a different culture and language. This is what has motivated CALC to step in, and focus their resources on helping this at-risk population. Year round, CALC provides a variety of services to help the families of those with special needs, including setting up caretaker services, helping enroll children into necessary school-district programs, and providing vital translation services. We at OU CASA applaud these efforts, and are proud to say that 100% of the funds raised at CASAblanca 2016 will be going to CALC’s Special Needs Endowment Fund, which will help these programs continue on into the future.
