Jesus said, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Repay to Caesar
what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” - Mt 22:17b-18, 21c

Please note: The offering for Mass Intentions is $10. We strive to accommodate requests for Mass Intensions, however, due to changing Mass schedules, Mass Intentions may have to be moved. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
PLEASE NOTE: Beginning Monday, October 20th
morning Mass at St. Francis will be celebrated at
8:00 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
MASS INTENTIONS: The practice of requesting a Mass to
be offered for deceased loved ones is a beautiful and wonderful
part of our Catholic tradition. In our Parish there are many re-
quests for Mass intentions, as a way to allow as many as possi-
ble, please be mindful of the limited number of Mass times
available. We also need to make times available for the recently
deceased.
If you are requesting more than one mass intention, please visit
the pastoral office to schedule. It is not efficient for the office to
process multiple mass intentions over the phone. Mass Inten-
tions may be requested by postal mail but must include the of-
fering and the Masses cannot be guaranteed.

The reason the Church exists
is to evangelize. —Pope Paul VI
Why sing at Mass?
My questions is: Why don’t we sing more? The importance of singing in ritual is long-established. Can we have a ball game in this country without a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”? I’m amazed that the same people who belt out a song in the shower don’t crack the songbook in the pews. Granted, not all church music suits your taste or mine. I’m not wild about the “Happy Birthday’ song either. But when it’s time to sing it, the liturgy of the moment de-mands that I play my part.
Saint Augustine insisted: “Singing is for one who loves.” That is the same Bishop Augustine who considered ban-ning music from his church altogether. Augustine loved music so much he found it far too fetching and distracting to enjoy at liturgies. In the end he adhered to the older proverb: “Whoever sings well prays twice over.” So pass out the song sheets.
In the Bible a lot of joy and gratitude gets expressed in random acts of music. “Sing to the Lord a new song!” the psalmists say—in the Bible’s own songbook, the Psalms. Many of the big players have a song to sing. To those who love and feel joy and gratitude, a little frivolity in public is in order.
